Hey I had the same question and have been researching a bit. His trial was 1901, so I'd guestimate he was in Oregon during the 1890s.
That's because Johnse Hatfield was never in Oregon. He was in no shape to travel after Randall McCoy shot him in the shoulder. Johnse Hatfield was my maternal great grandfather and Roseanna McCoy was my maternal great grandmother. If you draw a line under OREGON, scramble the letters, (and also an added touch-the name Johnse begins with a "G" sound) you will know where he was. Hint: he never left West Virginia.
Roseanna McCoy only had one child who died as an infant. There is no way she was your great grandmother.
Also, aside from there being NO way of you being a decendent of Roseanna McCoy (her only child passed before her 1st birthday), seeing as how "Johnse" was short/nickname for his actual name "Johnson" his name did not start with a "G" sound

Suggestions:

Include a timeframe - dates or approximate dates of his birth/marriage/death.  Can't tell if you are looking for someone born in 1720's or 1950's.

Include a location where he may have been born.  You say he 'went' to Oregon but not from WHERE!

If you have a WikiTree ID, include it.  If you have names of his parents/Spouses etc add those

Any of the above will make it easier for someone to help you.

When you are logged in - click   edit   to the right of your question - and add any of the above that you may know.

Good Luck
