Silas D. Lemons was born in Mass. in approx 1796 to a father from England and a mother from France. He later settled in Washington, Dutchess County, New York. He married Miriam Tallmadge and they had several children, all of them girls - Louisiana/Louisa, Lucinda, Henrietta & Frances. Lucinda (married Alexander Griffin), Henrietta and Frances either married or passed away, but Louisina/Louisa (unmarried) stayed with her parents until their deaths. Silas died on August 29, 1880 in Washington, Dutchess, County, New York at the age of 85. His obituary in the Poughkeepsie Eagle (9/2/1880) indicates that he was a member of the Spekomeko Lodge.

I am also searching for the gravesite of Silas and his wife Miriam Tallmadge Lemons.

Any help finding out where Silas came from or where he is buried would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!  Deirdre

I've been searching for quite some time to learn more about where he came from. I truly appreciate the info your sent and would love to know how you came to read my post. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving!  Deirdre
Hello,

I just so happened to be sourcing a Lemons family the other day, so when I found your unanswered question, in the "unanswered questions" query it sparked an interest. They have one of those names that can be Lehman, Lehmon, Lemmon and I have even seen LeMond - so I decided to search for Silas, but only having luck with Henrietta..working her may lead to Silas..???

I am not related in anyway, just helping where I can, when I can..

Char~
Thank you again, so much! And a Happy Thanksgiving to you!  Deirdre

In England the surname is most seen as Lemon, Leman or Leeming. My ancestor's English spelling was Liming or Leming.

Lemmon and Lemons seem to have been an american adaptation that the spelling evolved too here.

These spellings are German/Swiss in origin  Lehman, Lehmon.

This info comes from YDNA testing and the 150+ men who have been tested with the 15 different variant spellings.
