Any thoughts why FTDNA won't sell me an autosomal DNA test?

Question

I've had a y-111 test by them. Their shopping cart says I already had one or I don't qualify to get one. Should I want one - Kitty says so. Or should I go elsewhere. Bill (Elmer-1185) Thanks.

Ooooops!!!!  I just saw where FTDNA transfered me a free auDNA to my account. I have no idea why. Anyone know?

Well, the free transfer was only if I had an Ancestry or 23 and Me test to do that which I don't so I guess I am blocked until I somehow cancel the free transfer. I don't know what to do.....

Finally I found the contact phone for FTDNA and they obligingly sold me an auDNA and unblocked me. So I answered my own question.

I recommend testing on Ancestry.com and then transferring to FTDNA so you are in both databases.  Ancestry does not have a way to import while FTDNA does (as you saw).

Unfortunately, because Ancestry and 23andMe changed their DNA chip, FTDNA cannot do transfers for newer Ancestry or 23andMe tests.  They are working on fixing the problem, but it has been many months!

@Em McBeth, I wonder why GEDmatch.com was able to handle the new formats so quickly but not FTDNA?  Maybe it is intentional on FTDNA's part?

@William Foster  I suspect it is intentional due to the fact it has taken this long.  There is usually money involved in situations like this and GEDmatch is free.  I love GEDmatch!
