What is your oldest-known family Thanksgiving tradition?

While starting my own Thanksgiving preparations, it occurred to me that there is one item on the menu that I know is at least 4 generations old, and perhaps unusual: dates stuffed with hard sauce. This originated with my Cape Cod Fish family from what I can gather. Did the dates first come in by ship with one of the whaling seamen? Was it a local tradition, or a family one? I wish I knew! (If anyone from a Cape family also has this on the traditional menu, I'd love to know.)

Does your family's menu have an unusual item, not one from, say one of the women's magazines in the 50's, but probably much further back?

The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621. This feast lasted three days, and—as accounted by attendee Edward Winslow—it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.

Thank you, Steven. I remember reading a book in early grade school about "Squanto and the Pilgrims."
