"The date of Nicholas' birth is most likely incorrect and if we go on the assumption he was very young stowaway on a Hessian Troop ship and too young to be in the army. The German Hetrina lists most of the 30,000 Hessian soldiers and there were many 12 and 13 year olds, some even younger. According to research by Preston Linger, Nicholas Linger I was not more than 13 years of age and perhaps younger when he arrived in this country in 1776. Therefore it is believed 1764 or 1765 would be more nearly the date of his birth. The death date should be 1819, based on the courthouse county clerk's office. The year 1827 is the death of wife, Margaret."
