Pierre Bottineau (1817-1895) was the son of a white French-Canadian man and an Indian woman, born in a bison hunting camp in what is now the US state of North Dakota. Bottineau County, North Dakota is named after him, which is how he came to my attention.

Pierre's profile arrived on Wikitree via 124-DeCoursey.ged back in 2010. It remained dormant until last summer when a son, Louis David, was added. Since yesterday, I've added sources, pictures and some bio to the profile. I also located Pierre (he went by Peter) on the Minnesota State Census from 1865, 1875, 1885, 1895, and his widow in 1905. He died at the same location as the Census records.

In adding the family members from those five Census records, it doesn't seem like Louis David is part of this family. For one thing, he's attached to a mother who died 20 years before he was born. He doesn't fit easily into the sequence of children. He should have shown on the 1875 MN state census at least. But the 5 year old is a daughter, and the 6 year old is Norman. Nothing remotely like Louis David ---

Thoughts? I didn't want to disconnect him without some feedback.

Elizabeth,

I find that Louis David Bottineau is Pierre's nephew. He is the son of Severe Bottineau and Julia Chenevert.
