Starting a personal family history website

In addition to working on Wikitree materials, I have also created a personal website and blog for my family info.  Does anyone else here do something similar?

If so, I have a follow-up question.  Does it make sense for the website to include research on both my paternal and maternal ancestry?  Would this make it difficult for visitors to follow?

Here's a link to my website: http://forgottenleaves.weebly.com/

Honest feedback would be appreciated.  If I have violated an Wikitree policy by posting this sort of "off-topic" question, I will be happy to remove the post.  Thanks!

I appreciate all the kind feedback and support.  For those wondering about the WikiTree image on my site, I just used the snipping tool on Windows to add it as a jpeg/png image file.  And then I made it a clickable link back to WikiTree.

You link back to WikiTree for your family trees on the Trees menu option of your web site. I see your site as helping spread the WikiTree word - one site at a time. Also nice use of the new WikiTree feature to show an image of the first generations. Nice work.

I have mine online. Wouldnt have it any other way but realize I need to spread my wings and not be confined to my site only. Mine isnt a blog, it is my tree. Blogging brings in queries that you wouldnt normally get.

If you would decide to venture a little further and have your own tree online, you might consider using one of the below cloudbased options. I use TNG.

Genealone
Geneotree
GeneWeb
HuMo-gen
OneFam
PhpGedView
The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding (TNG)
XHTML Family Tree Generator

PhpGedview developement has been stalled for a few years now. It is not advisable to use it. The team split, and created WebTrees, which was based on PhpGedview. Developement is continuous, and there are updates every few months. I use it myself, having ported my PhpGedview over to it.

Last autumn, I started a simple WordPress blog that focuses on my genealogy, particularly my research processes.  I do include all branches of my family tree (though haven't written all that many posts - so only a few branches are represented thus far).

At some point, I'd like to include a searchable pedigree.  I like how you've included the WikiTree family tree and I just might follow your example...

Nice site, Jerry. The link back to wikitree is, indeed, a very nice touch. I've made a note to add that to my site, http://www.veazie.org.

I would recommend very much that you include research information on any and all lines you find of interest, whether maternal or paternal. Over the years I've gotten emails from "cousins," many from maternal lines of maternal lines, many beginning with something like: "I was searching for my great-grandmother, Jane Doe, and found your site..."

Corresponding with cousins is a wonderful way to discover your family.
