still need more info about Anna Elizabeth Graf

One answer to my earlier question seemed hopeful until i considered that the person mentioned was too old to have been my nephew's relation.

Her name was Anna Elizabeth Graf and we think she immigrated to the USA in the 1930s .and married John Alfred Blumhoefer in 1938, in Minnesota and had a daughter, my nephew's mother soon after.

I have made profiles for Anna Elizabeth Graf Blumhoefer and the relatives I have found.  She is Graf-651.

Thank you Mr Watt and others who have helped with this question. I am still a bit confused because several reference to my nephew's GGrandmother do not give her place of birth as Germany, though some site Switzerland. Due to the circumstances at the time it is possible that her family did not want to be known as German refugees, but I still want to confirm the place she immigrated from.

John, I think there may be a problem because there were two George Grafs living in the area at the same time: one was born in about 1884 in Switzerland and the other in 1882 in Hungary.  I am confident that the correct one for you is the one born in Hungary, especially as Anna's crossing into Canada shows that her father was born in Hungary. Also, the 1930 US Census shows that her parents were born in Austria-Hungary. Vic

Anna E. Blumhoefer died in Nov 1995.  The Social Security Death Index gives her birth date as 31 July 1911.("United States Social Security Death Index," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V9VH-B62 : 19 May 2014), Anna E Blumhoefer, Nov 1995; citing U.S. Social Security Administration, Death Master File, database (Alexandria, Virginia: National Technical Information Service, ongoing).

The Minnesota Death index confirms her birth date and gives her death as occurring on 29 Nov 1995 at Mille Lacs, Minnesota. Her mother's maiden name was Moser, and Anna was born in Minnesota.("Minnesota Death Index, 1908-2002," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V4CG-X38 : 4 December 2014), Anna Elizabeth Blumhoefer, 29 Nov 1995; from "Minnesota Death Index, 1908-2002," database, Ancestry (http://www.ancestry.com : 2001); citing Mille Lacs, Minnesota, record 2554601, certificate number 035029, Minnesota Department of Health, Minneapolis.)

In 1930, Anna Graf lived in Augusta, Lac Qui Parle, Minnesota, with her parents, George and Katherine Graf, both born in Austria-Hungary, and 6 brothers and sisters, all born in MN: Anna Graf, 18; Julia Graf, 16; Ewald Graf, 15; George Graf, 13; Joseph Graf, 11; Alfred Graf, 7; Gregory Graf, 5. Father George came to the USA in 1905 and his wife Katherine came in 1890. ("United States Census, 1930," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X387-XVJ : accessed 29 November 2016), Anna Graf in household of George Graf, Augusta, Lac Qui Parle, Minnesota, United States; citing ED 20, sheet 3B, line 79, family 77, NARA microfilm publication T626 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 2002), roll 1103; FHL microfilm 2,340,838.)   I believe that this is the correct family, based on the names of the brothers and sisters, when compared to the names of Alfred and Anna's children. Given when George and Katherine came to the USA and the birthplace of their children, they would have been married in the USA.

In 1920, Annie E. Graf was living in  Anderson, Burnett, Wisconsin, with her parents George, 37, and Katharine Graf, 35, both born in Hungary, and 6 brothers and sisters b. MN: Susanne K., 12; Martin G., 10; Annie E., 8; Julia M., 6; Ewald K., 5; George H., 3-1/2; and Joseph A., 0-6/12.  Katharine emigrated in 1905 and she is an alien. The date for George's entry looks like "1725", and he has submitted papers for citizenship.("United States Census, 1920," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFKT-8YW : accessed 29 November 2016), Annie E Graf in household of George Graf, Anderson, Burnett, Wisconsin, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 40, sheet 2B, line 97, family 45, NARA microfilm publication T625 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 1992), roll 1979; FHL microfilm 1,821,979.) Given the ages of these children, they would have been married about 1906.

When he registered for the World War 1 Draft in Burnett County, Wisconsin, George said he was 36 years old, born on 31 July 1882. He lived and farmed in Grantsburg.  His nearest relative was Mrs. George Graf of the same home address.(United States World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K8Q2-XHJ : 12 December 2014), George Graf, 1917-1918; citing Burnett County, Wisconsin, United States, NARA microfilm publication M1509 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,674,511.)  His World War 2 Draft Registration shows that he was born in Abadlan, Hungary, on 31 July 1882.(The National Archives at St. Louis; St. Louis, Missouri; Draft Registration Cards for Fourth Registration for Minnesota, 04/27/1942 - 04/27/1942; NAI Number: 598912; Record Group Title: Records of the Selective Service System; Record Group Number: 147. Accessed at Ancstry.com)

In 1910, Katy Graf, married 25 b. Austria, was a sister living in Fanning, Stearns, Minnesota, with brother Jackob Moser and his family.  Another Moser brother, Josef, 32, also lived with the family, as did Katy's children Susan,2, and Martin, 1. Katy came to the USA in 1891, as did Jackob and Josef Graf. Katy has been married for 3 years, and she has had 2 children, both still living.("United States Census, 1910," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M2PR-7ZV : accessed 30 November 2016), Katy Graf in household of Jackob Moser, Fanning, Stearns, Minnesota, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 138, sheet 8B, family 119, NARA microfilm publication T624 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 1982), roll 726; FHL microfilm 1,374,739.)

In 1900, Katy Moser, b. Austria Nov 1884, lived in Farming Township, Stearns, Minnesota, with Jacob Moser, b. Austria May 1870, and his family.  Paul Moser, widowed father, b. Austria Aug 1833, was also living with Jacob, and Katy's name appears directly below Paul's. Paul and Katy came to the USA in 1890, while Jacob came in 1889.("United States Census, 1900," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M93B-PFN : accessed 30 November 2016), Katy Moser in household of Jacob Moser, Farming Township, Stearns, Minnesota, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) 148, sheet 4B, family 62, NARA microfilm publication T623 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 1972.); FHL microfilm 1,240,792. )   Although Katy is called daughter in the home of Jacob, but Jacob's wife shows that she was born in Germany and had 5 children. They are all shown above and their mother was born in Germany, not Austria, so Katy must be Paul's daughter and Jacob's sister.

Anna Graf did cross into Canada in 1930.  She is shown on a list dated 30 Nov 1930, entering Canada on 19 Nov 1930 at Emerson, Manitoba.  She was USA citizenship and was born in Farming, MN (transcribed as Marietta, MN). She a Roman Catholic of Hungarian ancestry.  She will reside with her sister, Mrs. Joseph Roke? of 1022 N. George St., North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He father was George Graf of Marietta, MN.(Library and Archives Canada. Border Entries. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: Library and Archives Canada, n.d.. RG 76-C. Department of Employment and Immigration fonds. Library and Archives Canada; 1908-1935 Border Entries; Roll: T-15373. Accessed at Ancestry.com)  The naturalization index cards show that she was repatriated, but no date or number is given.
