I assume you are talking about degrees of Consanguinity where two people who marry have common ancestors. For example the First degree of Consanguinity is brother or sister, their parents being the same persons. The second degree of Consanguinity would be first cousins, they share a common set of Grandparents. The Third degree of Consanguinity would be second cousins who share a common set of Great grandparents.

If your talking about "xx" degrees of Kevin Bacon, Queen Elizabeth, et al, (at the bottom of profiles) it is unlikely to be a blood relationship at all. These degrees can go strait child to parent but they can also go sideways through marriages to people who aren't your blood relations
