Thomas Clark, Thornton - Lancashire or Yorkshire

I have a relative (Thomas Clark) who was born in Thornton in 1815 I believe.

I am not sure whether the Thornton was actually in Lancashire, or Yorkshire since different places were shown on the 10 year Census Returns.

Thomas Clark moved to Cumberland as a young man.

Any help would be appreciated

Do you have the link to the source? There's quite a few Thornton's, in Yorkshire and Lancashire

Looking at the parents (if you're certain they are from lancs.) I'd say you want the Lancashire Thornton - I put links below, but would be easier to see whats actually written to help decifer. The records may differ because of the person/census taker's error.

Thanks to a.C. Raper for this information

Thomas Clark shows his place of birth on various census docs as

  1. Thornton, Yorkshire, England,
  2. Lancashire, England,
  3. Lancaster, Lancashire

So I'm not really sure which Thornton he was from, since there appears to be several Thornton's in the geographical area.

Any local help, or knowledge of the area to help narrow this down would be appreciated, since I am not 100% sure whether the parents I have got listed are correct - see Wikitree link https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Clark-8897
