Biography Builders Dec 16/Jan 17: Born in December

The Bio Builders theme for the next thirty days (give or take a couple of days) will be people born in the month of December. I would guess that 1/12 of all the profiles on wikitree fall into this category. Look at your watchlist or in the indexes that include birth dates, like orphaned profiles or the surname indexes.

Biography Builders Goal: To make profiles as complete as possible with well-written biographies and sources. You should research as much as you can find on a person, writing the information onto the profiles to create as complete a life story as you can for that person. Sourcing should be full citations. This includes adding categories and links to events and people connected to that profile and citing all those additions. See the first month for examples of how to participate.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section.

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • One of the suggestions was siblings. I think this takes up real estate.
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (i.e. Disputed persons sections, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (I own the copyright or are in the public domain).
  • Categories/Projects.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page, linked below.

Great choice, Anne! I can spruce up my own profile...Probably not, but I have plenty on my watch list that can use the attention. Thanks for getting things rolling!
I can't find the last few months category pages! The last one I see is:

Category: Honoring the Grands, Biography Builders
We stopped building category pages.

Nice basic bio on Ebenezer Baker. I like the way you acknowledged the need for further research in the Australian records.

8952 born with the surname Merry
5811 born with the surname Christmas (150 named ‘Mary Christmas’, not all born at the end of the year!)
4201 Christmases got married (132 Mary Christmases got married!)
2364 born with the surname Noel
1402 Christmas as a given name
1683 born with the surname Holly
238 born with the surname Ivy
165 born with the surname Sprout
39 born with the surname Gift
13 born with the surname Present
11 born with the surname Cracker
Thanks, Ros! I particularly like the Mary Christmases.

Can they be newly added? I have been working on the connector challenge as well as sourcing, so a few I have done there apply here as well, if so:

1. Boney-113 - bio and sources
2. Williams-17307 -  bio and sources
3.  Grimes-2268 - bio and sources
4.

We didn't make a rule that they couldn't be newly added, so I think your ok. Some of mine from last month were newly added
Thanks, Ann.

On December 18, 1875 these brothers, Jacob Haass. and Heinrich Haass IV., married twin sisters born in December 1851. Made a free-space page about the double wedding - just because I could! Sometimes a girl just needs to do something different.  :) - Anthon Twins Marry Haass Brothers which is referenced on 6 profiles, the twins and 4 new profiles for the brothers and their parents, bios for 6 profiles. Now it's breaktime ... maybe I can squeeze in a couple more profiles later.

12. Margaretha Anthon. was Jacob's bride
and
13. Sophia (Anthon) Haass. was Heinrich's bride.

14. My 2GGM born December 2, 1807 Dorothea Ploeger. (Biography improvement added sources and sourced (with ref notes) profiles for 8 family members)

15. My husband's GF Adam Gren  born December 24, 1872 (according to family recollections). His life and the lives of his family are a mystery before they came to America. No records have been found before that voyage. Since this involves 6 people I created a free-space page (which is still in progress) which details their history from leaving Austria until the naturalization process was completed for those who chose that path.

I was looking for a December profile. I found one and starting adding information and links. But when adding all the children I ended up down the rabbit hole going further and further, children, grandchildren, spouses, spouses parents....I have completed 10 profiles listed under the November/December Thanksgiving challenge. Now if I can get back to my December birthday profile. Here it is by December birthday (my 11th biography).

I had the same problem with Thanksgiving. I entered Wilbur Cross, then had to add his parents etc, when I finally found someone already here, it was full of unproven information. On top of which I entered every "Cross" in theMansfield, CT, vital records and the Gurleyville cemetery. It took me the better part of three weeks.
Sue,

I've gone done lots of rabbit holes also. I get side tracked by all the "Learning curve" mistakes on my watchlist (I think these keep multiplying whenever I'm offline.) plus all the profiles I'm on the trusted list for that haven't been updated since before I joined WikiTree (Only 2 of these left). When I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I remember things like the unconnected family I added from sources I found during Source-A-Thon.

Does that sound familiar, Anne B!

.. It will never end ... Fully addicted to WikiTree ... :)
Sure enough does.

Here's my entry for Dec/Jan. Someone suggested in G2G to find a Christmas Day born relative and see if a picture could be added. I only had one person who matched that criteria: GreatUncle Dewey who already had a profile which was sourced and had a short bio written. I put the call out to relatives and my aunt came through:

James Dewey Baucom (Baucom-291)

answered by Debi Hoag G2G6 Pilot (214k points)
Good for your Aunt. and cool that he was born Christmas. If you have other people born anytime in December, that works too, and pictures aren't required, just nice.
