Searching for info on parents of Catherine (Grant) McNeil born in Scotland, 1830...

...Father James Grant and mother Nancy McLean.  They are listed on her marriage doc. in Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada, 1847.

I don't know if they moved with her to Canada or remained in Scotland.

Her death cert. states she was born in Mormersshire, Scotland.  But I googled the location with no result.  Haven't been able to find anything on them @ Ancestry or FamilySearch that wouldn't need tweaking.

Am beginning to question whether or not the marriage doc. is the right one.  One reason being, there are no children with the first name James or Nancy.

Much appreciated!

Thank you, Linda!
Mary,  further to my previous reply to you and reading that you are looking to a naming pattern for your family.  One thing to remember with the Christian name Nancy is that it is a diminutive form of the name Ann or Anne.  Not commonly used in Scotland.   Just another thought Mary,

Linda ~

I like the way you think! : )

I was wondering about that very same thing.  Because I did find birth records for two children who could be Catherine's siblings.  Parents listed as Ann McLean and James Grant.  And the children were born in Scotland, then are found in Glengarry, Ontario, CA (along with sooo many other Scots with same surname).

Thanx for confirming!

P.S.: The best answer pix is for the answer and comment combined (even though the only one, it still deserves best).

Absolutely Mary, you likely know the story of Glengarry and the Scottish Gaelic Highlanders who came to Canada because of the Highland Clearances for a better life.  The felt threatened due to the Jacobite defeat earlier and wanted to continue the traditions with which they were accustomed as well as their language which was Scottish/Gaelic.

The Scots were, and still are, a tight kinship that can be seen in the names that were carried into Ontario. The Highland Christian names such as  Christy/Chirsty ,Roderick,Murdo,/Murdock,Torqueil are but a few that are associated with the generations of Glengarry families.   I am sure you will have many, many connections!
