Anyone using GIS?

I'm taking a class in Geographic Info Systems (GIS) and wondering if anyone has used ArcMap or some other GIS software to analyse their genealogy data or produce a cool map.  I'm thinking it would come in handy in a ONS to look at distribution over time.

I use The Master Genealogist and there's a field for Lat and Long on every event which I've rarely use.

I have studied GIS some years ago and used Arcmap but have done nothing with genealogy, but feel that is the future....

I have bought MacFamily that has some cool features I also found this blog that looks promising

Thanks for sharing.  I'll look into MacFamilyTree too, I need to replace TMG which is no longer supported.

I did this (scroll down to the second case) last year as a proof of concept. Note that the background map doesn't come up in Firefox last time I checked.
