Correct wording... Lutheran

Question.... I have  very formal photo of my grandfather, about 1900, when he was about 12 or 13 years old.  My dad  called it a christening picture.  But, I don't think that is correct word.  Is there a first communion or ??? in the Lutheran church  for a boy this age?

Yes, that is the word I am looking for.  I knew christening was not the right word.  Thank you.

I think you are referring to a Lutheran confirmation. Lutheran children attend confirmation classes and are then confirmed. If the individual has not been christened at the time of confirmation, then that rite is performed at the same time.
