Happy New Year to all. My goals for 2017 is to work on the profiles that reside on my watchlist right now and make the profiles a lot more detailed than they are at this time. I am not going to worry about the monthly contribution badges but rather concentrate on having the best possible profiles that I can make from now on. This means that some of the profiles I currently manage will eventually be cut from my watchlist so that I can spend more time on the profiles that matter most to me. As of this morning I can say that every profile on my watchlist right now was edited in some way in 2016. I am unsure that I will be able to say that one year from now, but I am sure that I will be improving all that I touch in the next year.

I admire the goals you set for yourself for 2016 and 2017, Dale.  Since "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", I hope you don't mind me copying your 2016 goal as mine for 2017.

Well, this has been a good year for the most part and I think it has been for WikiTree as well.  Every month there have been improvements in the nuts and bolts of the system and while may be just things I've learned during my first full year on WikiTree, there have been many clear improvements.  Perhaps my votes for the top three improvements are the RootSearch, the Error Reports and the Sourceathon.

Personally, I'm going to get my 2nd straight club 1000 badge in a couple of days, though I have so many things I've not finished, I probably won't be able to do it again in January.

And so a happy and prosperous New Year for one and all!

Wow, another year ending, I have been with WikiTree now over two years, where has the time gone!! I know: researching, connecting ancestors, adding relatives and greeting more cousins (not necessarily in my tree) and so much more fun editing from the database error report lol. For the most part it has been an enjoyable experience, can't wait to see what next year brings. From Nashville, Tennessee, here's wishing everyone a safe and

Thank you for all your work this year cleaning up and improving profiles and participating in the Source-a-thon, Dorothy. Thanks also for your work with WikiTree members as a mentor, greeter, and volunteer coordinator. You help make WikiTree great!

I got involved more with genealogy this year because of the Ancestry DNA test. I had done most of my genealogy work in the 1990s. The September Source-athon got me rev-ed up to do a different level; sourcing, connecting, biographies, name studies, cemeteries...I keep finding more. I got involved in cemeteries through another activity I do called Waymarking. I found a contributor to Find-A-Grave that was working on a cemetery, the Friends Cemetery in Portsmouth where some of my and it turns out her relatives are. As a cousin she had photos of our shared ancestors and some in my branch that she shared with me and I asked her permission to post them here on Wikitree. I am probably at an unsustainable level of activity since I volunteer for AARP tax-aide, which is started up now with classes and tests etc.  I am going to have to cut back for awhile or I will never get certified to work this year!

Sue, Good for you with the other things you do. focus on the living for a couple of months, the dead can wait. I am also going to spend more time on other activities in the coming year, Like photography, model railroading, and public service using Ham Radio among other things. doing those other things should reduce the burn out form doing only genealogy. I still will be working on things here, just not as much as I have up til now.
Thank you, Sue, for your many contributions to WikiTree this year. Glad to hear you've enjoyed it and have learned a lot. It's good to recognize when you have reached an unsustainable level of activity. My participation comes in spurts, depending on my work schedule and surges in other activities. I'm sure taking a break will make you even better when you return.

My 2016 genealogy highlight was finding a cousin who was the last member of her family and who decided that I should be the recipient of ALL of her family photos and genealogical documents.  No, wait.  It was finding a man who'd researched an infant because her tombstone intrigued him.  The infant happened to be related to my cousins, and he'd acquired a vast quantity of resources about her and her parents over a 30-year span, including a list of children who hadn't survived infancy.  And, he gave me ALL of these documents, many of which I have yet to add to Wikitree.  No wait, it was making friends with a wonderful DNA cousin and giving him a photo of his great-great-grandmother and much knowledge that he never would have found if we hadn't met.  No wait, it was working with the city to add 150 names to our local cemetery list and correcting the spelling and dates for many more, unearthing stories about amazing people who lived in this town 100 years ago, and adding as many as possible to Wikitree.  No wait, it was finding my great-grandfather in the 1870 census mistranscribed as "Creek."  No wait, it was yesterday, when a distant cousin shared an amazing photograph of my 3 times great-grandfather--or last week when I was able to mail a Bible to a genealogy friend in his 20s who will get it next week and hold for the first time a Bible that belonged to his great-great-grandfather.  Well, you get the idea.  It's a little hard to know which of those amazing things was the best thing that happened in 2016, and Wikitree was my faithful friend through all of them.

Happy New Year everyone!

At my aunts house to celebrate Christmas & New Year's with family on my maternal side this weekend. Then Monday we are heading to meet a cousin for lunch on Monday.

Only genealogy I'll be doing is getting my aunts fiancé info for the tree. :)

We had some snow flurries here in Maryland yesterday, though nothing that stuck to the ground. Visited Washington, DC yesterday to check on the preparations for Inauguration Day.  Though it's three weeks away, the grandstand in front of the White House is being built.

I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year and success in your genealogical and other endeavors.

New Year Greetings from Brightlingsea, Essex, England.

Its now 2 years since I started on Wikitree. Found out alot about my relatives in Brightlingsea and their connections to other families.

Its been not only interesting but good fun.Maybe it suits the way my mind works. I am probably a bit of a "swot" and enjoy delving into things. Family history connects you to the past.

Much to do in 2017.................

Happy New Year everyone.  I've worked a lot on error corrections and
found a lot of unsourced challenges from them, some of which I have been able to add to.  As I listened to all of the dance music from next door last
night I missed my wonderful dance partner of 47 years who passed away Dec. 31, 2012.

Unbelievable, but we woke up to more snow today!  It never snows here and I have lost count of the days of snow we have had this winter!

Today, the first day of the year, I plan to work all day on WikiTree cleaning up my profile sources (after Gedcom upload) and adding to my family tree.  I am also considering taking part in the--what is it called?--sourceathon.

May this be the year you break down that unbreakable wall!!
