Can I delete my e-mail from a profile without deactivating my account or deleting the profile?

Hi - I was checking my watchlist and found that a profile (not created by me) had a P...  The original manager of the profile had added my e-mail address as the "living" person's e-mail (he died in 1854).  I'm on the trusted list and went to delete my e-mail, but the warning put me off.  Can I delete my e-mail from this profile without either causing the profile to go away or deactivating my wiki account?  (It's Barker-1354)

Thanks!

Hi Liz,

That warning is there because if you removed your email address from your own profile, you wouldn't be able to log in, but removing your email address from another profile won't delete that profile or affect your account.

Thanks!  I bit the bullet, took it off, and I'm still here :D
Good to hear! :)
It was wise to ask first, Liz. :-)

This should be an unusual case because two profiles can't have the same e-mail address. That is, another profile couldn't have your e-mail address if your e-mail address is on your account profile.

(I investigated what happened here to make sure there wasn't a bug, and it's that the second profile had a typo in the e-mail address.)
I missed that! Thanks for the additional info Chris.
Wouldn't it be odd in general to have anyone born before 1900 with an Email Address on the profile?  Should / could that be removed as an option for any profile with a birth that predates the 20th Century?
Hi Michael. There are places where we have the e-mail address field disappear if the person is non-living. Maybe we should make sure it's not on the edit page. It's possible to get carried away with these protections, though. They add complication and often have unintended consequences.
There is a good discussion of this in the help file file which you should review.
