Thank you, Nancy, but I already have all of his descendants. I am looking for his ancestors; parents, grandparents, etc.

Thank you
John Laird Sr. is also my fifth great grandfather.  My grandfather's been working on our genealogy for about forty years now and he can't find anything from before John Laird Sr.

It's almost as if he appeared out of nowhere.  And there's even less on his wife, Mary.
Hello Caitlin! Happy to meet a Laird cousin! My Grandpa Wayne Laird used to say we were found under a rock :) Maybe out of thin air was more like it! I don't think he knew about John Laird Sr, or anyone beyond his Grandfather William Laird 1845-1916. All of my extended family research is in Ancestry.com, I don't have all of it loaded in WikiTree yet. Grandpa also said we came from a long line of poor dirt farmers. Wish I had asked a lot more questions while he was living. The only other thing he said about our ancestry was that we were Scotch-Irish.

I've met another researcher (also named John Laird) in California that has been searching for years and has nothing beyond John Laird Sr. He has been planning to travel to Ireland to do more research, but his employment keeps getting in his way. He will let me know if and when he does, and if he is able to find anything more. If that day comes, I will happily share with one and all researching him.
I finally have the time and money to go this summer - but it looks like it will not be a time to travel!  Still interested in anything about our ancestor John Laird
