RootsTech 2017: will you be watching?

+9 votes

RootsTech 2017 is fast approaching.

Will you be watching?

Many of you will not be attending but did you know you can watch livestreaming events from RootTech?  Check the website during the Week of Feb 8-11th for updates to their livestreaming events.

And if by chance you are attending, give us a shout here so we know to look for you.

You may experience some delayed responses on G2G that week as several of the staff, leaders and coordinators will be in attendance.  Fortunately we have a lot of experienced volunteers who are ready to help.

And that make WikiTree a wonderful place to be.

The next session starts in 14 minutes (11am mountain 1pm eastern) with Kelli Bergheimer on "Mess on the Desk." LOL How did they know?

LDC wrote a blog post called the "#NotAtRootsTech Survival Guide" detailing ways that you can enjoy the conference even if you can't be there.

Next up is "DNA: The Glue that Holds Families Together" with Diahan Southard, starting at 12:15 MST, 2:15 EST. This is pertinent to me since I got the results from my first DNA test (Genes 4 Good) uploaded to GEDmatch this week.

With those results, we've confirmed Lizzie and Lebby as the children of Andrew Jackson Fore and Ella Caldwell through the third cousin connection I have with Nancy Rose. Not that there was any doubt legally as our paper trail was all in order.

While listening to the lecture, I'll be working on adding all the documentation I have for my Helms > Phillips line so that I know the paper trail agrees with another third cousin match.

Too far to travel for me - would love to go though. I'll have to check into the live streaming events.

It's day three of Live Streaming at RootsTech2017h. I've just finished watching Friday's General Session which focused on African American research. LeVar Burton's talk was very moving and Kenyatta Berry's talk on African American given name conventions provided some interesting correlations to Scottish patterns that I was already aware of.

Next up (10:30 MST) is the Innovator Showdown where the finalists will demo and pitch the newest things in genealogy. I wonder who will take the prize this year.

At 12:15 MST, Dr Judy G Russell will present "Mothers, Daughters Wives: Tracing Female Lines." She was the speaker at the FSGSTampa seminar this past year and I really enjoyed hearing her, so I'm looking forward to today's presentation.

After that there are sessions on census search strategies, choosing the DNA testing company that will give the best results for your question, and how to use religious records to provide clues for origins across the Atlantic.

If you've missed sessions or want to watch again, the videos for each day are online:

Wednesday -
Thursday -

There aren't any videos for Friday or Saturday yet but I'll bet the website names will follow the same pattern.
