LNAB for Matthias Mårtensson--or Morton?

I've proposed a merge between Matthias Morton-2032 and Mathias Mårtensson and would like opinions regarding which LNAB to use.

I suggest, as we've done in other children born in New Sweden, using the patronymic Mårtensson as the LNAB.  In 1669 when Matthias was born, his Swedish-born parents were living under Dutch rule in the former New Sweden. Both cultures used patronymic naming patterns.  After the English took New Netherland (when Matthias was a small child), the anglicized Morton came to be used for him and his siblings.

If there is consensus this is correct, would someone kindly PPP Mårtensson-419 to preserve the LNAB in the merge?

I think his profile might be categorized in the New Netherland Community.

Thank you!

Also would his first name be Mathias or Matthias?  Or were they interchangeable?
When it comes to spelling Swedish names... well... the ministers spelled the names the way they felt like doing it. Often the name in the christening records is the mutch more formal one which was not used in everyday life. Like Maria Magdalena would be called Maja or Magda. So if you spell it Mattias (the modern Swedish spelling since we don't have the th-sound) or Matthias or Mathias does not really matter I think.
I agree with Lena, the spelling doesn't matter. It cannot have mattered much to the people themselves - I don't think most of them could write; they had their marks to sign with.

As for Mårtensson, yes, I think you are settling for a good policy, anchoring it in the political changes in New Sweden (and where the person was born).

There are a number of New Sweden women that I'm "meeting" in the error report, I think I'll collect them into a list soon and come back with them.
Phew! I was able to send the comment! The Gothenburg Citinet went down this morning while I was reading g2g and came back up less than an hour ago - I keep expecting it to go down again.
