Remember that categorization cannot replace documentation, so you will want to have a sourced description of an individual's migration within the biographical narrative. Categorization is intended to group profiles of similar people where the grouping will assist genealogy. So having gotten your migration history documented in the biography, the next question is, what will be helpful to group?
There is discussion going on regarding eliminating excess and redundant categories. Everyone who migrated is both an emigrant and an immigrant. If someone travelled from Edinburgh, Scotland to Edinburg, Virginia, is it most useful to categorize them under both Scottish Emigrants and Virginia Immigrants? Do we want a category that specifies both places: Immigrants to Virginia from Scotland? How specific do we want the place: If we created a category, Immigrants to Edinburg Virginia from Edinburgh, Scotland, would we be likely to have more than one profile in the category?
These are questions that should be asked. Previously, a lot of empty categories were created for Immigration and Emigration, and I personally am not convinced that we have yet identified what is the most useful way to go!
