privacy level

I'm having several problems with this site. Privacy is the current one.

How can I change the privacy level of "Other Names". I don't want them public.

Why are all photos public? I uploaded photos of my immediate family and self, and I don't want those public. They're for immediate family only. There is a Red lock next to the photos, but they can still be public??  (Also, the thumbnails are clickable, allowing someone to see full size. It's also possible to save that image on another device.)

What exactly does "Public Family Tree" include?  If it's public, what *exactly* is and is not viewable? (Please don't refer me to the "Privacy" page. If it had the answers I was looking for, I wouldn't be asking here.)

Thank you,
PJ

I was just browsing around, looking for some interesting stuff to read, after ordering an essay at getgoodgrade.com and I got here. It seems like an interesting and useful site, so I just wanted to thank you all.

Other names will follow the privacy setting of the rest of the profile, there is not an individual control for each data field. Red privacy level will make them unviewable to anyone not on the trusted list.

Photos are a little more complicated. The thumbnail is always public, but at the small resolution (50x50 I think), no meaningful details can usually be made out. You will only be able to click and follow the thumbnail link if you are on the trusted lists that are connected to the photo. Photos get the lowest privacy setting of a person in them. If any person is pictured who is public than the image is public. A photo attached only to red profiles will have the same protection.

Public family tree refers to the connections to other profiles. Parents, children, siblings. If the names of those people are not public(per their settings the connection will appear as "son of private father".

Remember that regardless of privacy you will still see everything. Even when looking at the public view some things will still be viewable that the public can't see. The best way to get a sense of privacy levels is to log out and look at the page or turn on private browsing(don't log in, in the new window).

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out with any other questions.

I appreciate your reply, though I'm not happy with the answer. There should be more privacy options available, particularly for photos. The ability to specify a privacy level for individual data fields, should be made available for users.
