Did anyone else notice that WikiTree passed the threshold of 10 million connected profiles today?

Awesome!!
Amen!
Absolutely!
Congratulations Wikitree.
Congratulations Wikitree.

Only 290,000,000 to go, Oh that is just for the USA.

And, having now passed the one-year mark for the 1 million Threshold, how many members do we have???  IAN OLD answered my question below:  We have 15 million! or plus 14 million in one year! Wahoo!!

The statistic I reported when this thread started was CONNECTED profiles, not total profiles, and last year's statistic for connected profiles  was TEN MILLION, not one million.

Connection Finder is reporting that 12,860,615 people are connected, so the connected total went up by 2.86 million in the past year.
Thanks, Ellen, and I'm sorry I didn't know that before I wrote my silly, euphoric note above. That's one message I'd really like to delete. Sigh.

I was watching the counter recently and was pleased to see the number of profiles has now passed 15 million.

A real credit to a fantastic system and all the hard work that goes into maintaining and improving it.

Woohoo, 15 million total profiles!

The connected profiles count is at 11,671,480 people

Ooh! Let's do a surge to get that count over 12 million!
My main work of late has been to try and connect all of the unconnected profiles on my watchlist, but I still have quite a few. Tow of the profiles I am trying to connect ate also Notables but with one still living and the other having no information about his father I am not holding my breath for those.

Well done!!!

I am wondering two things though...

1) How many of those are duplicates?
2) How many of those are unsourced?

I don't think anybody is under the illusion that the job is finished, Richard, but it's important to celebrate whatever progress we make in any area, to encourage people. If there's no hope, why get out of bed in the morning?
Agree and well said Greg!
Hi Greg

I both understand and agree with the points you have made there. The comment I made wasn't meant to sound like a metaphoric lead balloon - if it did then I apologize - but it was and is a genuine though...
Well, it's true that "what gets measured gets managed." In the Connectors Project, we've seen a slow but steady decrease in the percentage of profiles which aren't connected to the main tree. (Granted, we're not going to see 0% unconnected profiles, because new people are signing up all the time, but it looks to me as if the network effect is already starting to kick in: as the number of profiles connected to the main tree increases, it gets easier for people to make connections, so the main tree gets bigger still, and we end up with a virtuous cycle.)

In thinking about your comments, the thought occurred to me that it might be helpful to have a sort of "Dashboard" screen for WikiTree: one screen with a whole bunch of indicators for how things are going in terms of tree size, active WikiTreers, percentage unconnected, percentage unsourced, percentage uncategorised, etc. That way, people who have been on WikiTree long enough that they know how to handle multiple tasks would be able to log in and ask, "What part of WikiTree needs my help the most today?"
That is definitely an interesting proposal right there.

Yesterday I finished connecting two men which played a key role in the Allies gaining the upper hand at Gallipoli in 1915 which came about because I was connecting the three Shelley Baronet lines (Castle Goring, Michelgrove and Penshurst Place). Having done that, I'm beginning to look through and pick the next handful of notables to connect.
Hi Richard,

I read that you're in the Notables project and are selecting profiles to work on. I have one that needs connecting if you are searching for a project. If so message me.
Greg I really like your last idea suggesting users do one actionable task to grow and source wikitree. I also liked the first sentence quote.
I agree, Greg!
The Connectors Project page has various tables of unconnected branches, including largest branches, trickiest branches and notables, if anybody wants to join.

Yesterday just before seeing this thread, by adding a single generation I connected together two branches of people who lived within 10 miles of each other in Warwickshire. They were both already connected to the main tree but it's a good feeling getting the fragments of families together and it makes stronger connections to the main tree.

Thank you for pointing that out, Gillian. I should have mentioned it sooner. People can find (most of) those lists on the Let others know what locations you are working on page.

People automatically recognize the real deal, and Wikitree is that and a whole lot more! Now let's continue to spread the word, while getting the current 10 millions sourced and connected!  Thanks Ellen for sharing.

I think that's a very useful post. Wikitree is currently at 15 million profiles which seems an amazing effort until you look at that link and see that over 44 million people have sadly died so far this year alone.
