Why don't profiles that have already been added show up before you add a new one?

I am really getting tired of this situation.  Today I was adding the wife of a profile I adopted in January 2014 that had been uploaded by ged by someone else. It turns out that now I find both Israel and his wife Lucy were already there, but they never showed up until I was searching for Lucy's parents in some Wikipedia information. I realize that I have to now merge them; however it shouldn't have happened in the first place if the system was working as it is supposed to work. Neither Israel Noble (1735-1819) nor Lucy Benedict, his only wife, appeared before they were added.  Israel Noble-497 already existed as Noble-3, but there are no dates even though there is a book source. His wife Lucy Benedict-180 is connected there and even though a birth approximation is there, it still did not show up before she got duplicated.  What is going on with this? On the same profile (Nobel-3), the name is spelled Nobel for him and Noble for Lucy.  It simply makes the situation worse.

I think you have isolated the issue when you noted the spelling differences. It does make the situation worse, but if Nobel and Noble are the same they can be merged.
