TMG users, with no future updates/upgrades available, what alternative programs have you tried?

So far I haven't found an alternative that I like for TMG. I started using it on Version 4 and currently using 9. While a lot of people complained about the learning curve, I found it easy to use. Love the detail oriented data collection and being able to modify to fit. I hate when I specifically note in other programs that two people aren't married and they still refer to the couple as married especially when at least one of them is currently married to another. That distorts the actually data and misrepresents my findings. urgghh

I've been doing research for a long time and I have found a lot of unusual sources over the years. I get frustrated trying to enter data and those types of sources in the other programs that I have tried.

Open to suggestions.

Fellow TMG refugee here, Sharon. Like you, I found TMG easy and accommodating of all the little odd bits of data that I seemed to find. Unfortunately, I took a 10 year hiatus and missed the last two updates, coming back to research two months after the last sale date. I'm stuck with version 7. I've tried RootsMagic, Legacy, Family Historian, and RootsTrust. While looking for that last name, I ran across one I've not seen before (ScionPC) which seems to address your marital status issues though I've not tried the software.

For the time being, all my research is ending up here on WikiTree. The Bio space lets me track all my bits and bobs with all formatting left to me.

Debi I had almost the same experience. Not as long of a break though. But I was able to get in touch with someone who had some valid authorization codes so I am working with 9 now. I don't know if he has anymore.

I'm not familiar with the last two programs, but I have tried the others.  Very frustrating.  I heard about another group trying to create a new program that does something similar to TMG. I keep hoping to find something before my TMG program can't function anymore.

I see this question is almost a year old, but I thought perhaps another answer would be appreciated. I'm still using TMG v8 and I'm not going to try to switch to anything. I'd invested so heavily in TMG's unique features that moving to any other software would be a massive undertaking.

Maybe once I'm done (ha, ha!) adding to WikiTree I'll consider finding replacement software, but in the meantime TMG still works fine.
