This is my brick wall and I would greatly appreciate some assistance. My 2X great grandfather was John Desmond who married Honora (Nora) Ryan, probably in the US. My great grandmother Anna Catherine Desmond (Annie)was born in 1862 in Illinois (possibly Peoria). By the 1870 census Annie and her widowed mother Nora are in Omaha, Nebraska. I was never aware of any Desmond or Ryan cousins in the Omaha area growing up.

I found these records on Ancestry.  They don't contain much info.  The U.S. Naturalization Record lists his address as Peoria County, Illinois, US.  If the census record is his, he is in the home of Patrick and Catherine Desmond.

Naturalization record:

VIEWU.S. Naturalization Record Indexes, 1791-1992 (Indexed in World Archives Project)

Name: John Desmond
Birth Place: Ireland
Court District: Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa
Date of Action: 18 Mar 1857

1855 Illinois census:

VIEWIllinois, State Census Collection, 1825-1865

Name: John Desmond
Census Date: 3 Jul 1855
Residence Place: Township 28, Jo Daviess, Illinois, USA
I wonder where his wife is? They were married in April 1854/1855 in Peoria I cannot find either of them in the 1860 census and Anna would have been 3 then. She first shows up as a servant at her aunt's house in the 1870 census.
