Hi, I wonder if anyone has worked out how to list couples in a Civil Partnership. [closed]

closed with the note: I reckon that the biography is the answer even if it is a bit second class. Thanks for the responses.

It's a marriage in all but name.  The name was just the necessary device to get the law passed against the opposition of the Church (which pulls the strings of a large number of MPs).
Thanks for your comment RJ I agree that the name was the mechanism for pushing the legislation through but unfortunately it's not just the name that makes it different. Different pension recognition legislation for instance, I could go on but this is not the forum.

Thanks again for your comment I'll step away from the soap box now.

Does https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Non-traditional_families answer your question?

"There's nothing on WikiTree that requires a marriage to be between a man and a woman."

You can mark two people as married.  If that doesn't suit your needs, then simply write in the biography they were in a Civil Partnership.  I would recommend a statement in the biography regardless, so future visitors do not assume an error.

Thanks Stephen,

I suppose this will have to do. I'm glad that wikitree has the facility for same sex couples (unlike FS) but I always hope for better. The facility to clarify the spousal relationship would be nice without having to resort to the biography. Maybe someday!!!

I'm in a long term childless relationship (hetero) with my bf and there is no satisfactory way of recording that either, so I just used the marriage location box to explain it, though it will doubtless come up as an error in the future when it ceases to be private. Second class is a good way of describing it.
