I have middle eastern ancestors and i have the full names, but what is the "surname" or the best way to enter the names in modern format?

Can you give a couple examples of names?
ok Abd al-malik ibn Marwan al-Umayyah, Abdul al-Wallid ibn Abd al-Malik al-Umayyah those are both sons, Aisha bint Abdul Yazod al-Wallid al-Umayyah that is a daughter.  i have too many others to list here, i do see how the naming itself works, im just not sure of the proper way to enter into modern formatting and into search sites to find confirmation/resources for citing (i just realised these names are a bit simple.  some of the others i have include ibn/bint 2 or 3 times)

Hi Janice,

I posted your question in the EuroAristo group. Maybe someone there can help.

Or we could try to work this out together. Perhaps you could post what you have for the names and what you understand them to mean. Then we could try to apply (and if necessary, extend) the rules from http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Name_Fields

i can begin posting however at this time i haven't confirmed the few sources cited so i can't can't say they are accurate.  i believe they are a form of lineage similar to spanish names, i believe ibn denotes "son of" and bint denotes "daughter of".  i just don't know with some that include ibn/bint 2 or 3 times where to divide to call "surname" then "middle name".
Did you ever get a definitive answer Janice?  I wonder how this is handled by genealogists in that part of the world...
no i have some middle eastern facebook friends i have tried asking but they aren't into the genealogy or anciet middle eastern naming rules.  i have decided until i find out other wise i will handle them much like the old spanish naming that is essentially the persons pedigree and give my best guess as to actual name and the rest as surname
