What to put for birth names of adopted children?

2 of my daughters were my ex-wife's from her first marriage. They have lived under my last name for the majority of their lives, although they have kept in touch with their biological father's family, etc. They claim their maiden name is my last name.

Obviously "Name at Birth" is clear, but when the names are displayed my name shows no where.

This doesn't seem correct, but, of course, I may be biased. How should it be done?

Hello, Curtis!

From your description of the situation, I have inferred that your daughters are married and that their married surnames are listed in the Current Last Name field. Thus, their profiles display as Given Names (LNAB) Married Surname. Although they consider your surname as their maiden name, that term is actually irrelevant to WikiTree!

The current display of their names is the proper stlye. So, as Ruben states, your surname should be placed in the Other Last Name(s) field if you or your daughters want it to be displayed on their profiles.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes, Lindy the girls are married.

I guess I'll just have to cry myself to sleep. I filled in my name in the Other Last Names field, so maybe they'll show up in a search.

How strange!, if you make a search of the last name Hertwig they aren't listed, but if you include their First Name they are.

Hi Curtis,

You can enter your lastname  in the  Other Last Name(s): field on their profiles. That way your lastname will be shown as aka.

Try it and see how it looks.
