I recommend ordering the Family Finder test at http://www.familytreedna.com/cj.aspx?ftdna_ref=600

When you get your results then register at https://www.gedmatch.com/login1.php

Then go to GEDmatch's "Admixture (heritage)" admixture utility

Select the MDLP Project

Click on the radio button for Admixture Proportions by Chromosome

Click on the Continue button

Enter your GEDmatch ID in the kit number field

Use the MDLP World-22 and then the MDLP K23b calculator models.  Both have Inuit samples in the Arctic and Arctic-Amerind populations.

If you have more than about 4% Arctic (or Arctic-Amerind) on a chromosome then there is a good chance you inherited some Inuit autosomal DNA.

Then use Chromosome Painting in the Admixture Utilities to determine the location of that Arctic/Inuit segment(s).

Thank you Peter I have just ordered the DNA kit as you suggested.
could this test be used for all native americans? also would it explain how to read it for beginners?

Thank you,

Lilly Anderson G2G1
GEDmatch has several other admixture utilities which include Native American populations to compare with.
