Is there someone who can help untangle some Shaw leads?

I have been trying to sort out my maternal family lines for a while, but it is proving quite challenging.  I am manager of Evan Shaw (Shaw-8719).

I find an Evan K and an Evan N born in 1810 in the same place in Virginia.  Expanded family trees on familysearch.org show two to three different sets of parents.  Finding both an Evan K and an Evan N or Nicholas also shows several children on both trees with similar names and ages.

My thoughts are that this particular Evan is Evan K., child of George Y. Shaw and Polly(?) Buchartie of Virginia.  Then there is also an Evan Nicholas born of Angus (Anguish) Shaw, also in Virginia.  I am having trouble confirming this and separating the children to the correct Evan.

Hi Esther,

Have you tried looking up Evan Shaw in South Carolina on www.gengophers.com? I just entered his name and South Carolina as the state/country. It brought up several items of info on the Shaw's of Virginia and the third one shows and Evan Shaw and brother paying taxes on two slaves in Pittsyvania, VA in 1810. Just a guess, but maybe you might find something in one of these online books.

Hi Esther:  I added a possible 1870 census record and 1880 census record for Evan Shaw.  In both those censuses, Evan is married to someone named Mary with a bunch of younger kids.  I added a possible marriage for Evan to Mary Brown in 1855.  I wasn't able to find Evan Shaw in the 1860 census.  He's probably there but I just didn't find him. Of course, feel free to delete my research notes on the 1870 census, etc. if you don't think this is the correct guy.  I hope this helps.  It looks like the name "Evan Shaw" is pretty common.  Good luck!
