No response/answer to post re:"private profiles"

A week or so ago I posted a query regarding several profiles on one family that are locked as "private" despite the fact they are all pre-1900. I had wondered if there was someone whom I should be contacting directly as there were a large number (over 30) of these profiles??? There were a couple of comments in response to my post but no one said they would look into the matter. Nor did anyone suggest who I should contact. So I will try again........

The following are four of the over 30 "private profiles - as you can see they are for individuals born early in 19th century.
Mary Hollingshead [Hollingshead-64] (abt 1819 - abt 1886) m. [private spouse]
Susan (Hollingshead) Millard [Hollingshead-45] (1822) m. [private spouse]
Edith Hollingshead [Hollingshead-30] (abt 1835 - 1898) m. [private spouse]
Sarah Hollingshead [Hollingshead-51] (abt 1838 - abt 1924) m. [private spouse]
.
To see the rest, click on the "descendants" button for Anthony Hollingshead UE (1730 - 1818)  Hollingshead-52. Scroll down, the problems begin about half way down the page. As I said in my previous query, the PM for this family has not been active for awhile and did not respond to my post.

Marie, I believe someone did give you the information on doing an Unresponsive Manager request.  There are several steps to follow, because the profile manager has to be given time to respond.  Here's a link to the same information in the Help section:

I am not trying to open just a "private" red-locked profile. These are the black unlisted which has the ruling: Unlisted
No public information. Name won't appear in search results or directories. Not an option for Wiki Genealogists.

              ..............................................

I am reporting 30 to 40 profiles with absolutely no information. I thought that the Wiki thing to do was tell someone who know how to fix it. I did not expect it to be corrected instantly but I'd thought there would be some acknowledgement that my message was received.

Am I wrong in thinking that these "black locks" were meant to be used only on profiles for living people??

Marie --

I took a look at a few of the private descendant profiles, and they are set at "Private with Public Biography." I didn't notice any that were set to unlisted.

Regardless, you will still need to go through the Unresponsive Profile Manager process to see about getting added to the Trusted List.

There's more information about how all this works on the help page: Unresponsive Profile Managers.

Hope that helps!

Julie -
First of all - I do not want to be on this person's Trusted List. Period.

I was merely checking the Hollingshead descendants to see who the children, grandchildren, etc. had married as "my tree" has a couple BIG brickwalls and who know where you will find a clue! Plus my uncle by marriage is a descendant.

That is when I discovered these locked profiles that DO NOT show even the names, just "[private spouse]". I did post the PM in January, asking if she would unlock the effected profiles. I waited over 30 days but no response, so then I contacted G2.

And I'm sorry to say, that since then I've been getting a major run around. I'm a GREAT fan of Wiki but I'm becoming very frustrated. I merely wished to report a problem but I'm being told I should have done this or that, with no assurance that someone would look at "the problem."

Now, before someone tells me AGAIN that I need to look at doing an Unresponsive Manager request - I did that before my first post to G2 because that was the route I preferred, rather than here. But I couldn't find how or where to do so - every link I tried took me around in a circle. I think maybe that page could be a little more "user friendly" or maybe that is just me being dense!!

Anyway, I have had enough of this and have more to do than trying to explain myself. I'm 85 years old and the sands of time are running fast, and, as I said I've got some major brick walls to break through and I've wasted enough time on this already.

Thankyou for your good intentions and have a good day.

Marie,

I understand your frustration when trying to work with profiles that are not "Open" privacy. However, there is no rule that says profiles of individuals born less than 200 years ago need to be opened. It is suggested that they at least be set to Public, but that is not required.

As Nan said, your option at this time is to go through the Unresponsive Profile Manager process. If indeed the profile manager is no longer active, the WikiTree team will take the necessary steps to open the profiles.
