Dutch website WieWasWie (WhoWasWho): new user interface (beta)

The new version has some nice improvements:

  • No need to scroll down to enter more search criteria
  • Expanding/collapsing result lines to show/hide detailed index records instead of showing details in new page

Issues:

  • Displayed date format changed from names for day and month  to dd-mm-yyyy only, so 08-09-1928 instead of Monday, September 8, 1828. Be careful!
  • New urls for index records. Uncertain if old links will be valid!

Jan for clarification of users who happen to stumble on this feed in the future could you please add a description of the site. Its probably not very well known. Thanks!

Jan's made a Free Space page for it. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WieWasWie
Thanks for adding it Carrie and Jan for its creation.

Also: Familysearch has a Guide to Dutch Genealogy with a "HowTo" for WieWasWie.

Reported the issues to the WieWasWie Helpdesk, and the answers are:

Thanks for your feedback. With a new website, it is always necessary to make an assessment of the information displayed. Because the new site is also suitable for use on a tablet or smartphone the dayname is omitted because of limited space. We have many English speaking users and for that reason the date column is labeled "Date (dmy)." It is also a matter of getting used to.

The old links continue to work after the expiry of the current website, so don't worry about that.

Sincerely,
Helpdesk WieWasWie

Helpdesk WieWasWie

Received e-mail:

Almost there! The beta version will replace the old site permanently. We update the website on Wednesday, March 15th, and therefore the site that morning will be temporarily unavailable from approximately 8:00 CET. We hope for your understanding and will try to use the new website within an hour. Through our social media channels we will keep you informed.

Until Wednesday you can use the beta version at the following link: https://beta.wiewaswie.nl, after the conversion, you can use WieWasWie again through https://wiewaswie.nl. Self-preserved references to document detail pages remain usable.

Thanks, Jan, for staying on top of this.  It will save me frustration if I update a profile this week that Wiewaswie is a source for!
