Question

I just tried to upload my GEDCOM, and got error: too many individuals. GedCompare can only handle 5000. I have 5900. Questions: was my GEDCOM uploaded or not? Is there any way to get around this limit? I use Reunion on Mac. I do not have Windows.

You may want to consider downloading a desktop genealogy software that will let you import a full gedcom and then export a smaller one.   I believe that Roots Magic 7 (free edition) has the ability to limit gedcom exports to a chosen number of generations and/or only direct descendants.  You can also exclude people with no last names or dates.

You should read information under gedcoms in the Help Index. There are several restrictions to be consider when uploading/importing a gedcom. And there is a difference between uploading and importing. You may upload a gedcom for comparison with 5000 individuals. But the file must be approved by WikiTree admin before it can be imported into WikiTree and become part of the global tree.

No file can be imported into WikiTree with more than 2500 individuals. No profiles of individuals born pre-1700 can be imported. If most of your profiles have no sources, the file will be rejected.

Strongly suggest you consider importing only a small file of 25-50 persons as a test to see what is required.

I also use Reunion.

It is possible to export a subset of your tree from Reunion to a GEDCOM.

What you might consider doing is go to your own profile in Reunion.

Then look for the MARK option in the lefthand column. A menu will pop up. Keep Action as Mark; keep generations as 10 (for now); Under "Who" select Ancestors from the menu; your name should then appear in the next box next to "of". Select Unmark everyone first, Mark Source Person and Mark Spouses. Leave "Mark parents of spouses" and "Mark siblings of ancestors" UNmarked.

Then click on MARK.

THEN, go back to Family View.

From the FILE menu, select EXPORT, GEDCOM. Under who, select "Marked people and their spouses". Include Sources, but don't bother with multimedia links. Then click on EXPORT and follow the rest of the instructions for saving a GEDCOM file. Note where on your computer it is saved.

This should give you a GEDCOM of less than 5000 people.
