Now His mother wasn't she married to Javan Parker b.1848 d. 1917?
It looks like Javan Daniel Parker had two wives one named Delpha and one name Rachel from the census data.  Didn't find Rachel with Columbus after the 1880 census, except for those death records in later 1880's.  Maybe he died, or they divorced?

Daniel J/Javan Parker (not all the same DJ) https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3A%22daniel%20javan%22~%20%2Bsurname%3Aparker~%20%2Bbirth_place%3Anc~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1846-1850~%20%2Bmarriage_place%3Anc~%20%2Bmarriage_year%3A1880-1920~%20%2Bspouse_givenname%3Adelpha~
Ok Chris are they any way to find out where in the mountains of N.C they lived?

You might relook at the above Census data and see the dwelling number, enumeration district /ED etc. as given.  The county clerks office can often find maps corresponding to census data and date, that pinpoints the matching household.

Don't know if this is connected, requires further research.
