Trying to find details of my great great grandmother. Not sure about her maiden  name, but know her married name was McDaid, husband William.

I think they came from Derry, my great grandfather married their daughter Ellen McDaid in the Long Tower.

Several Ellen Mcdaid's b Donegal, Ireland had a father named William.

One Ellen Mcdaid was b Antrim, whose father was named William.

Do you have a time frame for the people in your question, such as birth year?

What was William Mcdaid's wife's first name, and do you know what year they married?
Thank you for your prompt reply Frank.

I have a wife of William named Margaret but I'm not sure I have the correct second name for her. I have Currie or McGinnis??

I do know he definitely had a daughter called Ellen McDaid who married my great grandfather in 1898 in Derry City.

They then moved to Glasgow, where my great grandfather lived. He was a sailor who worked for Anchor line, Derry-Glasgow.

I'm sure Ellen would have had siblings but I've no record of them as yet either. The info above is all I have so far.
Hello, I'm a bit new to all this but Im doing some research and I'm trying to find out about my fathers family, which maybe your family??? my fathers father William Orr was the son of James Orr and Ellen (mcdaid) her parents were william Mc daid and Ellenor Mcginnis? I'd like to talk more and try and figure this out.

This reply is about the history of the McDaid name:

Last name: McDaid

SDB Popularity ranking: 6944

Recorded in many forms as shown below, this is an Irish surname, but one well recorded in Scotland. It is of medieval Irish origin, and derives from the Gaelic 'MacDaibheid', meaning the son of David, although how the hebrew name David came to be found in Ireland at all is a mystery. Today the surname is widely recorded as MacDavitt, McDaid, McDavid, McDade, Davison, McDevitt and others. In its homeland of counties Donegal and Derry, it is generally in the form of McDaid or McDade. The family are said to have descended not from St David, the patron saint of Wales, although this is possible, but from David O' Doherty, a chief of Cinel Conaill, who was killed in battle in 1208. It is said that the new clan grew to be numerous in the town of Inishowen. In its varied forms the surname is also fairly popular in Glasgow, Scotland. Amongst the sample recordings in Ireland are the following random recordings of William John McDade, christened on July 24th 1833 at Dromore, County Down, and Hugh McDavid who left Glasgow on the ship Brooksby, bound for New York on June 1st 1846. The first recorded spelling of the family name may be that of Elizabeth McDeid who married Barnaby Hargan, at Drumachose, Londonderry, in 1750, and during the reign of King George 11nd, known as 'The Last Warrior King', 1727-1760. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was sometimes known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

Hello, I have found out a bit more and am certain we had the same set of great Grandparents, James Orr and Ellen Mcdaid (Helen) had James, William(my grandfather), David (1903-1903), George, Margaret, Samuel, Thomas, Catherine and Ellen (1915-1915). In the 1901 census, William Mcdaid (60yrs) was boarding with the family, along with his son William (20yrs) and a daughter mary (22yrs) how do you fit in?
