I uploaded a .ged file and many people don't dates. When I open it on my computer in Gramps, they are there. Does anyone understand why? Thanks, Kurt

Yes sometimes when gedcoms are uploaded from different systems wikitree don't know how to interpret the data I believe however it puts it in the Notes. It won't do pictures either.

Best of luck

Hi Kurt,

Dates should not be lost on import. What is an example of a profile that was created from a GEDCOM import that lost its dates? I could then look in the original file and see if I can diagnose what went wrong.

Hi Chris, I've just uploaded a gedcom "Untitled_2.ged". I assume you can see it. This link is to a screenshot showing the dates in Gramps.  http://i.imgur.com/9C577b0.png Richard Binning is one, Henry, Lavinia, Mabel, etc.  Thanks for your help.
Hi Kurt,

I think I see the problem. In the raw file, I see christening dates for these individuals, not birth dates. I'm afraid we don't have a christening database field.

Chris
Thank Chris, but why do you think they are christening dates?
Here's the raw file:
https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:UploadGedcom&action=report&gu_id=85082&raw=1

Under Henry Binning, for example, you'll see:
1 CHR
2 DATE 18 DEC 1831
Thanks again Chris, I'll have to play around with Gramps and figure out to get it to filter out those dates. If anyone can see that raw file can you delete it please? it has another person email address. Kurt

I was about to ask the same question, but then found that GEDCOMpare apparently drops virtually all PII for "living" people. For example, birth dates and places for my brothers, sons, and me are all gone, but for my parents and back, not.

It shouldn't. I know on my desktop software, when exporting a GEDCOM there is an option to strip out information about living people -- are you sure you didn't use something like that?

Ah, yes, you're right. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hmm, now I need to decide if I want to redo the whole GEDCOMpare process over with a new, "complete" file.  :(
