Tomasz, thank you for joining Poland Project!
I submitted a request for access to the google group, but it's been a while and doesn't appear to have been approved yet. Just checking in on that.  Thanks
Hi , im interested in joining, my ancestors ( Daniel Traugott Zerbst) came from Posen Prussia, (and his wife Anna Hirschfield) came from Zlotkowo Posen Prussia,im keen to learn more about them and beyond.
Please add me! My great grandfather Felix Kotowski came from Zwiernyniec (could have the spelling wrong) just before WWI and his wife Mary (Bednarz) and son Stefan followed a few years later. Very stuck with researching this branch of my family tree. My grandmother Eleanor was born in the US.
I would like to join the Poland project to learn more about my Brietzke heritage.

Yes.  I'm likely to be more of a asker of questions than an answerer, but I hope I can contribute somethiing.

BTW, I would recommend using the "Polish_Roots" tag instead of the "Poland" one.  The latter will get you lots of stuff in your feed for people with the last name "Poland".  Not what I wanted.

I can not find anything about the surname Mormile in Poland.
by Dubravka Delijevski G2G Crew (620 points)

The name MORMILE is coming up popular in Italy at Public Profiler.

http://worldnames.publicprofiler.org/Default.aspx

It's possible the name was originally Italian but the family may have settled in Poland for a long time.

And my son started study 4 years ago 100 km from the location in Wroclaw which feels odd - map

We maybe have a common Ancestry video

My Ydna is R1a which is only 4.5% of males in England but is highest in Poland where 57% of males have the same ydna as myself - refer http://www.eupedia.com/europe/european_y-dna_haplogroups.shtml

Plus my daughter-in-law's great grandmother was May Elizabeth Borkowski born in Poland and my wife Ilse was evacuated from Berlin during the War to live with her grandmother in Strzgom/Striegau.  Their family were in Schlesien as far back as we can trace.

by Malcolm Hutton G2G Crew (690 points)

Malcolm, that's interesting about the Borkowski family, and the DNA connections to your in-law's family.

Malcolm, if you added your in-law's family on here, you can put the Polish Roots template on their profiles. Let me know if you need help.
Thank You Maggie.   How do I add the template?   I have the Borkowski's shown in my wikitree - Hutton 533 and Ilse's Striegau/Strzgom ancestors in her Altenhof 5 Tree.

I can't help wondering whether the Borkowski's were caught up in the 1863 uprising as Posen is not that far to the east of Babimost and their village of Podmokle.    The Posener Journal reported that a Borkowski was hanged in November 1864 and there is a memorial in Munich which has 'Borkowski' at the top of the Polish Names.    Perhaps the family then made their way to Germany.   They went from Hamburg to Leith in June 1874 and then left London in the Cartvale in October 1874 for Wellington, NZ.

Thank you very much for the Badge on my Polish roots. I was on the original Ancestry in the 1980's, which did my DNA back to Poland, and I didn't understand why, but now I do. The new Ancestry is not as specific as my old DNA 1980's test which was done on me in the 1980's, and went back to Poland, the new test only goes to Western Europe.

Thank you,

Dona Floyd Kimmons

Yes, I better join this group since I have started placing the Polish Roots tag on many of the profiles of my father's family this week!  I have hit so many brick walls on this side of my family, I am hopeful that by working together with you, I can dig my roots deeper in Polish history.
