I noted from the Irish Roots page that a Donegal project was mooted. I would be interested in working on this and/or helping it get up and running.
If anyone finds any good resources for County Kerry please add them to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Sources-Ireland-Province-County#Kerry  and/or https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:County_Kerry#Resources_for_County_Kerry_Genealogy

 Thanks and good hunting

Jason, was a Project page created yet for Donegal ? Male sure to let Abby know abby@wikitree.com. She is the Projects Coordinator.

I'd like to join and I'm already part of the Irish Roots Project.

My Shea, Cahill and Brosnihan lines are from Kerry (Tralee and Ballymacelligott).
I would love to join! Very interested in Clifford/Casey families in County Kerry.

I have traced most of my family lines in Ireland, but have one left to trace, involving the Purcell and Dillon surnames.  DNA testing indicates that I have matches with origins in County Kerry, and I suspect that my Purcell/Dillon line may lead there.

I'm interested in joining the Kerry project too.  I have an interest in the Anglo Irish in this area and have put in a lot of the connections I have found, to the Knights of Kerry, Fitzgeralds, Herberts of Muckross and Dumas family of Cloghereen.  I recently read a book a fascinating book called the Recollections of Dorothea Herbert from 1770 - 1789.  These were her diaries.  She had cousins who were from Muckross House so I was able to find quite a few references to various people in her books already in wikitree and add them in.  Interesting insight to that time of a well to do family.
by Sue Martin G2G2 (2.9k points)

Hi Sue,

Where did you get the book on the Herberts from? I've seen a few references to them in my research eg 17th March 1780 Henry Arthur Herbert of Muckross leasing the Town Lands of Killcluhirrane and Coolaworeen to Hugh Falvey for the lives of John Falvey Esq and Maria Falvey both children Hugh Falvey.

To be honest it was gift!  A cousin in Ireland found a copy and bought it online and mailed it to me as a surprise in Australia.  It has a great little family tree in the back of it too. I recently went to Kerry in Ireland and Muckross House do a wonderful tour, and I understand they have a library there too but I didn't have a chance to investigate it further.  I was searching for a link to my Huguenot family the Dumas family who lived very close by.  Finally found a marriage!  Here is Dorothea's profile in wikitree  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Herbert-266

You are lucky to have visit Muckross House, Sue!

You might be interested in the deed from 1753 at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSH3-S7XZ-T?i=473&cat=185720

It starts of "Petra Hillgrove of the City of Cork Widow & Relict of Thom. Hillgrove late of the same City Merch. Deced & James Dumas of Clughgreen in the County of Kerry Gent Husband of Ann Dumas otherwise Hillgrove eldest dau of Thos Hillgrove"

Thank you so much.  I was sure this was my James Dumas but this deed is dated before he died, so it is now just confusing me even more.  Back to the puzzle!

I think Thomas Hillgrove is the one who is dead not James Dumas... and the date should have been 1763 (whoops). There are another 16 Kerry/Cork deeds in the pre-1789 list (apologies in advance):

John thank you heaps.  This is fabulous.  I really appreciate your help.

I think this should really sort out a lot of mysteries I have.
The sad thing is I know who some of the other people in the deeds are, and in some cases the people who leased the land before the Dumas were called Falvey (not related to me though).
I have come this again and again in the Anglo Irish, the same names pop up again and again. I haven't come across the name Falvey before do you think they might have been Huguenots? My frustration with my Dumas lot are the same names over and over again!  Very hard to sort them out.
Yes I was Maggie.  I would definitely recommend it if anyone goes there.  I really would have liked them to let me loose in their library but ran out of time and I think you have to organise it in advance.
No Falvey weren't Huguenot though one of them did marry into the Espinasse family in Dublin. They were best known as lawyers to Maurice O'Connell of Derrynane, the uncle of Daniel O'Connell.

I would like to join this project.                                                                      My Sullivan ancestors are Kerry. Michael O'Sullivan abt 1845 Firies and his wife Catherine "Kate" Clifford about 1848 Dooks from the Upper Ballygamboon Castlemaine. They had 9 children. One daughter disappeared or passed away between 1901 and 19011. I have estimated that Michael and Catherine settled in the Castlemaine area about 1870.There oldest son James was born Fries 1867 and their second child Mary was born near Castlemaine 1869. Have not confirmed proff positive the birth record.  In 1901 they lived in house 5 Upper Ballygamboon and in 1911 house 11 Upper Ballygamboon. I do have a group of Sullivan cousins and my immediate family gedmatch numbers. I would be willing to share by email.

Yes. 3 of my grandparents,  6 g grandparents,12 gg grandparents were from county Kerry. I would like to trace their lineage back farther as some of them are supposed to be descended from the O'Sullivan Beare & O'Sullivan Mores.  My paternal grandfathers first cousin Christoper D Sullivan was Ny Senator to WashingtonI have some DNA matches with a descendent of the Fitzgerald Knights of Kerry & Barons of Fermoy and a descendent of the DeVere Hunts of Curraghchase estate in Co Limerick also.

by Geraldine O'Sullivan-Hogan G2G Crew (660 points)

Hi Geraldine,

There's a couple of links at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/O%27_Sullivan-7 that point back along the Ardea line of the O'Sullivan Beare family. The O'Sullivan More line died out in 1754 or 1762 depending on who you believe. A deed of 1762 said that "Danl O’Connell Danl Sullivan, Thos Fitzgerald and Jno Mahony are the only nephews and heirs at law of Danl O’Sullivan More late of Tomies".

Jeremiah King's History of Kerry Part VI has 50 pages of Sullivan's including a couple of pages on the Ardea line.

Welcome and happy hunting

John

I would like to join the County Kerry sub-project. I've been working on my paternal line Cork ancestor profiles for a while but have discovered that I have dozens of DNA matches on my mum's side, to people from or originally from Kerry. We have hardly any info on her side because her mother grew up in an orphanage. Huge brick wall and no idea how her Donovan father is connected to all these DNA matches to Breen, Sullivan, Coffey, Shea etc families from Kerry.

Hi Susan,   I've just swapped your name over from the general Counties Team to the County Kerry Team.
Thanks Maria :)

My great-grandmother Culloty was married in Castleisland, Kerry. She is the only Irish ancestor I've managed to trace back to the 'old country' and I'm working on expanding my findings.

If not too late, I would like to get involved in this Kerry project. I have a good number of MaCarthy ancestors there, so it would be interesting to if these would match with other records you have in this project. Let me know if I can still help - Richard

I recently discovered a set of my maternal 2G-grandparents (Jane Healey & John Hurley) are from Co. Kerry (Kilgarvin area). Additionally, Ancestry's recent ethnicities update to the DNA placed me as part of the East Beara Peninsula group which includes both parts of Co. Kerry & Co. Cork.
