Salt on a Bird's Tail and other Family Folklore

This morning, I was reading an old letter from my aunt where she tells this funny story about my grandfather: "When he was about 4 years old, his parents told him that if you sprinkle salt on a bird's tail, you can catch it. Evidently he threw a lot of salt around the yard, but never managed to catch one!"

It got me wondering if anyone has any humorous anecdotes about similar stories they were told about in their family? ;-)

My grandmother used to say if you saw one mouse in the house, you'd see seven.  As I recall, she was right about ninety percent of the time.

Also heard the one about salting the bird's tail, but no one was ever quick enough to prove it true!

When I was living in Texas, they said that about cockroaches, too, only it was more like 100... and they were right! ;-p
