Was George Shelton the father of Thomas Shelton (Shelton-3698) (b. c1776 Stafford County, VA)?

Question

Thomas Stafford was born in Stafford County, Virginia, in 1776, and in 1812 emigrated to Brown County, Ohio (per obituary). I have unverified information that his father was George Shelton b: 1730 in VA, USA d: 1830 in Brown Co., OH, USA (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2542910&id=I545470538 and http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SHELTON/1998-10/0909356619). I would like to confirm this connection and hopefully identify parents of George Shelton. Thank you.

There seem to be a couple SAR and DAR applications from Thomas's descendents

 They would list the father of Thomas who would have been the soldier.

Thank you. Where did you find these applications? I had not used the DAR ancestor search (http://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search/?Tab_ID=1) until today and did not find anything, so I think I am doing something wrong.

The only reference to his father being George Shelton is from FamilySearch's International Genealogical Index and I haven't checked into it to see if it is sourced.

The Wood family Bible and the US Census reports, etc., all refer to Thomas Shelton or his descendants, and not to his ancestry.

Thank you. Where did you find the Wood family Bible? I am a novice genealogist and do not know where to find this. 

Thank you also for mentioning IGI. I have had no luck using it - all I found were links to tiny portions of someone's family tree with no sources (e.g. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:1:99R8-QZC). The only bit that mentions his father (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:1:936P-J7Z) has only the father son connection and no other people that I can find. Is this typical of IGI?
