According to his son, Billy, William Gorman was born in Ireland about 1775.  He is my 4th great grandfather, but I'm descended through Billy's sister, Mary (Gorman) Alexander.  William married Jane Henderson in Mason County, Kentucky, in 1792, and died in Greenup, Kentucky, in 1822.  He and Jane had several children.

Worldwide web websites say that many Gormans, O'Gormans, and MacGormans at one time lived in County Clare, Munster, Ireland, but I've not any idea if that was the part of Ireland from whence he came.  It's a likely starting place.  I don't have any idea how he relates to the O'Gormans and O'Kanes of Ontario, Canada, nor how he relates to the Gormans who were shipped to Australia.

Eddie, good information!  I have hit a brick wall for my husband's Gorman family, who originally were from Ireland, but migrated to Scotland during the potato family and worked in open mines there.  When that work ran out, they immigrated to America and worked in underground mines in Angus in Union Township, Iowa, originally called Coaltown, which was settled in the 1870's.

Eddie, if you had created an "answer" rather than a comment on David Hughey's question, I could award you a "best answer."  Regardless, you can be sure that I will look further into your two Wm Gormans.  My husband's ancestor was James MaGorman, but his brother was a Wm.

also try under Liam, have you a DNA test done I have a lot of William Gormans under my tree its a common name around here, Co Meath.
