Hello Everyone!

This will be a sort of monthly Notables hangout, for those who are part of the Notables Team, want to be part of the Notables Team, or even if you don't want to be a part of the "Team", but just want to post that you've been working on Notables. We'll run each of these posts roughly beginning to end of month so that we can keep it from getting too large and unmanageable.

I'm really looking forward to hearing what everyone is working on. If you specifically want help, please make sure everyone is aware and you might be surprised just who might poke in and add that next key bit of information or series of profiles.

Let me just say up front that it is greatly appreciated for all that you do for these families that in many cases are not blood related or even remotely related to your own, and I hope you find it as fascinating as I do that in some ways we get the opportunity to fill in some unique gaps in history (family history at the very least) that are both challenging and rewarding. Thank you.

I am still trying to get Peggy Wood, Academy Award Nominee connected. Wikipedia claims she is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone.  I have done some work on the paternal line.  The mother is Mary Gardner, too common a name for me to find parents in NY.  If anyone is interested in Daniel Boone or Notables, I invite you to check it out. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wood-19655
That's an interesting puzzle.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Boone-34

Here's Daniel - descendant surnames - lots but not all of his children appear to have fully researched trees, so there's a lot of possibilities.

Got to get out in the yard and do some work while there's daylight, but I found Mary Gardiner - her birth year is slightly off - she was born 1858-1859 - parents Samuel Gardner and Margaret Van Valkenberg

"United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MCP8-X71 : 30 December 2015), Mary Gardner in entry for Samuel Gardner, 1860.

"United States Census, 1870," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M6KN-25C : 17 October 2014), Mary Gardner in household of Samuel Gardner, Ohio, United States; citing p. 12, family 94, NARA microfilm publication M593 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 552,684."United States Census, 1870," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M6KN-25C : 17 October 2014), Mary Gardner in household of Samuel Gardner, Ohio, United States; citing p. 12, family 94, NARA microfilm publication M593 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 552,684.

"United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MZ15-Z7L : 14 July 2016), Mary Gardner in household of Samuel Gardner, Coshocton, Coshocton, Ohio, United States; citing enumeration district ED 58, sheet 234C, NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 1003; FHL microfilm 1,255,003.

You'll note her living in Coshocton, OH and her job in 1880 - Telegraph Operator - which is the same thing her daughter's Wikipedia article says.
OK - I think I've found a connection to

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Shelby-40

Through Ella Sutherland - to her mother Hannah Shelby and up a few generations. Still working out the details, but I think it should work out.
Found a neat story about Harvey Sutherland, Ella's father, and entered an initial profile for him - if you have time, please go ahead and add Hannah Shelby and see if you can line up to David (Shelby-40). If you want, I can try to get to it later after church and a little bit of housework that needs to be done.
The connection is made and the links should update tonight.
Still looking for the Boone connection - Samuel Gardiner, Mary Gardiner's father, is supposed to be the son of Mary Boone. But the genealogies I'm finding show Mary Boone as the daughter of Richard Boone (born 1746) and his parents are confusing - potentially either Samuel Boone (born 1717) or James Boone (1720).

Of course, Daniel was born 1734, so the potential for "direct descendant" is a little less likely if this information above is accurate. More research will be required to prove it one way or another. They may share a common ancestor up the chain somewhere - I'm beginning to believe that may be more likely - but even this will need to be proven.
And to confuse matters more, some sources are showing Jabez Gardner (the father of Samuel Garner) married to Sarah Brone and not Mary Boone. Looks like there is a bit of speculation, a bit of sloppy research, and a good amount of contradictory information out there.
OK - 2 more connections added, but still no confirmation on the Boone relationship.
Hi All, My husband is related by marriage (quite distant) to Sir Ernest Rutherford. We have always had a coaster made from a joke NZ $100 note and said we were having tea with "Greaty Uncle Ernie". Then I looked him up on Wikitree and discovered he was an orphan profile. It seemed very sad that such a great scientist should be in the orphan group here so I adopted him. I have done a little digging about the rest of the family, as it is important that those around him are also as correct as possible to give the full picture of his life and personal history. I should be delighted to be corrected and am happy to hand over to anyone more closely related if they wish it.
Welcome, Lynlee, to the wonderful world of Notables! I think we all have a Notable connection somewhere and it's great that it's something your family has known like that. It's great that you have adopted this profile and if you need any assistance finding relatives, improving his profile, or just want to bounce some ideas off the team, please feel free to post here and we'll do our best.

Thanks!
Don Rickles, one of the great comedians of all time, has passed away today. I've started a profile on him - feel free to add to it.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rickles-14
One down - Stokowski was married to Gloria Vanderbilt - she's connected to the tree already and he's now connected to her. At least I can check him off my "gottadoitnow" list...
Daniel Boone had a lot of cousins. His mother had a lot of siblings. His maternal grandmother's last name was Jarman (Welsh). Her husband's name was Morgan, also Welsh. Squire Boone Sr. came from Devon, England, but at Ancestry at least one tree points that male line back to Wales. Well, just my two cents worth.
Hi there,
I'm interested in the Notables project.  I just discovered that Beethoven's profile was orphaned.  As I happen to be a classical flutist who studied the life and works of Beethoven extensively in my undergrad years, and I happen to live in Germany, I thought I would be able to make some contributions to this family.  I am planning to comb through the church records and see what I can find regarding Beethoven's nephew's family, as well as more distant relatives.

I finally finished Florence Leona (Christie) Akman Owens Hill Thompson, the lady in the famous Depression-era photograph. Unlike most Notables, her picture is widely known but her story hardly at all. It didn't take long to connect her, but it did take awhile to find enough about her parents. Especially her father. So, that one got done this month.

Then: I got two emails about country singer Kenny Chesney. One had family lore I could use, and I got that one done. Only took 100 profiles or so. Recurring Tennessee Delayed Birth Records and TVA removal enumerations for that one. That means Renée Zellweger is connected, too.

This week, I got two emails about the Loomis Gang. They're a little obscure, but notable, too. I didn't give them Notables tags though, just Black Sheep. That's what I worked on yesterday. Not even close to done; mostly I tied the Mallett family back which got me back onto my Connecticut cemeteries work.

And that's what I'll be doing as May begins. Back to trying to find a placement for Hannah (Unknown) Betts. The poor lady's the opposite of Notable. I have yet to determine her name or anyone she could be connected to!

I guess I'll start with my plan for the beginning of April. I'm still working on the Academy Award Winners, so I've got several on my plate to work on to finish

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cooper-10298 <-- Gary Cooper - I've got much of his and his wife's family started, but no connection yet.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/McDaniel-2116 <-- Hattie McDaniel - I've done quite a bit on her family and extended family, but no connection yet.

3 Profiles to start - Leopold Stokowski, William Garity, and John N.A. Hawkins - all Honorary winners from the 1942-1943 period.

Someone also got me started on author Charles Lamb ( https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lamb-3450 ) - I've got some potential leads on him, but nothing that will link him to the tree.

I'm sure there are a half-dozen more I'll get into this month as well plus my work on my own family, but those are my starters for the month. If you see one you like, please go ahead and work on it - I love help!
by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Just to see some of my thought patterns, I decided to watch an old movie (The Ghoul, 1933) and came across a name I'd never heard of - Dorothy Hyson. Curious, I looked up her wiki and she's a famous stage actress. Interesting. No profile on WikiTree. Married to two different men - neither has a profile but both were actors. One was a CBE - Sir Anthony Quayle. The other one was Robert Douglas. OK - Sir Anthony was previously married to Hermione Hannen. Who was previously married to Clifford Evans. No profiles for any of them. One of them had 9 children - so when looking back at this trove of intermarried Notables, I see potential connections with all of them. Somewhere that connection is hiding - and I'll file this away for now and revisit when I've hit a brick wall on my others. :)
On another thread, Lillian Porter reminded me that no one had entered a profile for Dr. and Chief Joseph Medicine Crow, who was not so long ago awarded the Presidental Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. So to get things going, Lillian and I have put together an initial family tree for him, but it still needs work. If anyone has an interest in his profile, here it is:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Medicine_Crow-2
Aha - I believe I have a connection for Cooper if I can gain access to a trusted list, but it might mean having a disputed spouse. The dispute lies with an ancestry tree that I can't see how it could be sourced, and a PM that hasn't been on since 2012. I guess if someone could check the Ancestry tree and find out what information they have on the potential wife (who was a Cooper, according to my research - according to their tree, she's a Stott) - for the initial combine, I might add both of them to the profile and then we can dig into both to see which is correct. If I have to separate them later by building another profile, I can do that, but the research I've got so far is towards them being the same.
Stokowski, Garity, and Hawkins all added. They received honorary Academy Awards for Fantasia (for music and sound). Now I'll have to figure out how to complete their family, bios, and connect them to the tree.
Stokowski connected. Family added to Cooper and Garity. I added a bit of family to some distant relatives of Hattie. And need to get back to Hawkins, Lamb, and Crow. And add Dorothy Hyson when I get a chance...

Somebody has connected Charles Lamb.

Somebody has connected Hattie McDaniel.

Somebody has connected Joseph Medicine Crow.

Good luck with the new project.  Are you going to select particular areas of improvement or occupations for various months?

I don't work too much on notables but I do have a few who are related, namely Pres. G W Bush and his mother, writer Robert Heinlein, and General Devers.  There are a couple more where the connection isn't proven or I've forgotten  One thing I want to do is to make as many of the links to these people confident instead of unknown or worse as possible.  I did work on one of them the other day, Lucy Pruden who I didn't feel very confident about, so I created a research note where I listed the sources I did have and came away feeling that the net result made things clear enough that I felt justified marking her connections to her links up and down are confident.  I ought to look at the connection to Robert Heinlein next as he's a fairly close cousin and I should be able to find sources for all of the links.
by Dave Dardinger G2G6 Pilot (440k points)
I remember working on Heinlein awhile back, and hope that we have him in decent shape. Good luck on him and the others. And this isn't so much of a new project, but we're just bringing a bit more focus and interest into the Notables project by helping to showcase that there's a lot of us who are working on Notables these days and so many different types of Notables you can get involved with.

As far as a theme for each month? Hmm... I like the idea. For April we'll leave it open for now, but I'll take that idea back and we can run with it for May. Thanks!
Yep, you did some work on Heinlein and we discussed it before.  I've been working on the line I mentioned above but I see that I may have hit a problem when I get back to Anna (Evans) Lyle whose father was Joseph Evans son of David Evans, Sr.  Since this puts us back before the 1850 census I'm not sure that I have a source which speaks to the link between the two.  I'm probably going to have to find records back in Washington, Pennsylvainia or Muskingum, Ohio.  She's born in 1811 which would be in PA but she was  married in Ohio.  I don't think the Robert Heinlein 2 volume biography goes back that far, but I'll look to see as I know it does mention the Lyles.

I tend to focus on one Notable a week for the Examples gallery. This week I am updating and adding to Maya Angelou's profile. I also have been doing some updates to the Brown family of Sister Wives fame and the Osmond family of ... Osmond family fame :-) Mostly adding bios and inline citations, photos where needed, and always adding the Notables project account.
by Abby Glann G2G6 Pilot (730k points)
Abby, I always notice your work on these profiles at the moment when I least expect it, which is awesome. I greatly appreciate what you do for the Notables and have noticed that you add the quality touches to these profiles that I struggle with. I tend to be fairly good at rooting out connections, sources, and trying to put new profiles in place that I feel (one day) I'll return to and give them a complete biography and the full treatment, but your profiles always seem to turn out so nice. I could learn a lot from you on this.
Scott, you make me blush! I enjoy getting to make things their best, but with all the things I do on the Team, do not always get a lot of time to do so. Working at least on the Examples gallery gives me a chance :-) My background is in writing-my major in college was English and Religion, with a focus on poetry, and I spent most of those years doing nothing but research and writing, so it just comes naturally. It's all of us working together that really does it, though. Some people I wouldn't think of until I see someone else starting on them. Those sources and blips of bios are great inspiration!

I admire how much you accomplish all over for Notables and am so glad you started leading it :-) This thread is a great idea!
And some work readying Charles Schulz for the connection finder this month. He had a good bio start, but a lot of it was not cited and clipped from a NY Times obit. He had a great list of sources, though, so took those and turned them into a biography, as well as adding some comic images.I think he look ready to roll now.
I saw your edits on Joyce and Charles' marriage and divorce and knew I'd seen some better dates out there. I added those citations and updated the dates to reflect them. The Schulz museum timeline is actually very detailed and covered a lot of ground.
awesome! Thank you.
This week was creating a biography for Napoleon Bonaparte.  I enjoyed the history lesson that came along with it.  He was banished to Elba this day in history :-)
Oooh wonderful biography for Napoléon, Abby. Thank you so much. (Now will I ever find time and motivation to add a French translation?).
Thanks, Isabelle! I'd love to see his profile in French :-)

I've been adding profiles for Cecil B. DeMille's https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/DeMille-39 family members and in the process found and added the choreographer Agnes de Mille https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_Mille-11 as a Notable. I haven't found a connection to the big tree yet, but will keep looking.
by Laurie Cruthers G2G6 Pilot (165k points)
Very nice, Laurie! Cecil's on my Academy Awards list somewhere, so glad to hear he's in good hands. :)

I took a quick look and it looks like you're making great progress. If you hit a brick wall somewhere, let me know and I'll see if there's anything I can do to help out.
Thanks, Scott!

I am currently working on 2 Notables.

Richard Dean Anderson - the actor from MacGyver and Stargate.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Anderson-27929

Richard has always been rather private about himself and his family, so I cannot be sure that I even have the right mother.

I also like watching WDYTYA - from UK, USA and Australia, and I often like to add names of those celebrities on that program who are not currently on Wikitree.

My latest notable from WDYTYA is British choir master Gareth Malone, who is a well known choir master and likes to build up choirs out of the unlikeliest groups of people.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Malone-2120

His maternal grandfathers surname and his maternal great grandfathers surname are not the same so I'm not sure how to track that change.
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Love Richard Dean Anderson - the old MacGyver is the best. The new one is OK, but seems to be missing the magic of the original series.

Can't say that I'm familiar with Gareth Malone, but I'll have to take a look later to familiarize my self with him.
In case you haven't seen it, Gareth Malone was on Who Do You Think You Are, so that might give you some good clues.  His episode was fascinating.  It's probably available on YouTube.
Yes I have seen the WDYTYA episode with Gareth Malone. And yes it is on Youtube.  I had never heard of him before I saw that.

Malone like to give himself challenges and make really good choirs out of the unlikeliest groups of people!!

I have since seen some episodes of his Reality series Naked Choir ( a cappella groups) on youtube. The Community choir was also a good series. Military Wives choir is also on Youtube but I haven't seen that yet.

However the very first series - The Choir, from some school - does not seem to be on Youtube.

I adopted Morgan Freeman after finding his profile was orphaned and set as "not living" - as well as much of his family - so I adopted the set and fixed the profiles. It is the one of the joys of Wikitree - being able to "adopt" an actor who not only is a favorite at home, but is older than my parents!

He is still unconnected, and I don't expect he'll be easy to connect. I tried to add sources to a few of his ancestors, but certainly could use some help.

Also done a little work on expanding the family for Maurice Maeterlinck - hope he'll be connected in time.

by Isabelle Martin G2G6 Pilot (566k points)
Good to hear, Isabelle!! I saw Morgan's profile out there in passing, and am glad to hear that someone picked him up to give him a proper family tree. Has he been the subject of any WDYTYA shows, or anything like that? I seem to recall that he might have been on one, but there's been so many that I can't always keep track.

http://ethnicelebs.com/morgan-freeman

And Ethnicelebs is always worth checking out - and they even cited WikiTree as one potential source for their information. There seems to be some claims of European or possibly Scottish ancestry, so you might run into a bit of luck if you can trace down that line. Good luck.

Scott, I could not find any reference to a WDYTYA show, but the existing tree is using information from "A Way Out of No Way." African American Lives 2 Episode 3. PBS. 6 Feb 2008 - also with the title "We Come From People". I'll see what I can add with the EthniCelebs page.

Alfred Carr and Ceeley Johnson, Morgan's ancestors who could never marry because of the laws of the time, are there. I found them set as married and did not have the heart to remove the marriage. I feel this is one of the cases where an exception could be made to the Wikitree rule that people who were not actually married should not be shown as married.

Yes - that was it - the African American Lives 2 one. I think I rented it once but ran out of time to watch it.

I too have mixed feelings about the marriage, and I'm sure you'd get viewpoints on both sides of this one. For now I think you're right in leaving it in place unless someone presents a compelling argument to remove it.

I'm not part of the Notables project, but recently did some work on the Booths, the founding family of the Salvation Army, and also added a profile for James Simon Wallis Hunt (racing car driver) then realised he should probably be a notable, so just added the template today. So far I have added one of the spouses, and one of his children Freddie... who is living, but is also well known as a racing car driver and was one of the subjects of a documentary "Sons of Speed" .  He hasn't yet made the pages of Wikipedia, so he wouldn't yet qualify as a notable?

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hunt-11621

Anyone want to add Suzy Miller (first wife of James Hunt)? Super model and actress who left James Hunt for Richard Burton (she married him in 1976). If not, I will get to her eventually...(she would be a notable?) - however some of the sources for her life will be US based, and my Ancestry subscription doesn't include US.

thanks

Lianne

by Lianne Trevarthen G2G6 Mach 4 (46.6k points)
Hello Lianne, and welcome!

Sounds like you've got your hands full with a number of Notables so that's great to hear! The founders of the Salvation Army must be a fascinating group to work on. I also had a race car driver I worked on in the past (local guy - Sprint Cars) who just happened to be buried in a nearby cemetery. I was fortunate to get him connected to the global tree, so I felt a nice sense of accomplishment with that.

Suzy Miller would indeed be a Notable, so hopefully you or someone else will add her in the near future.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzy_Miller

Now that she's listed here, I'm sure someone (or maybe me, myself or I) will take a closer look at her... ;)
Just so I have it all in one place:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jenkins-4832

Here's Richard Burton's profile - where Suzy can be added
So I added Suzy, but couldn't find much on her. I think she was born around 1949-ish, but all I could find was that she "grew up in or around Rhodesia" (Africa). Not sure where she was born. Found one source for her marriage to Hunt, but no divorce info to back up the dates on wiki. Guess I'll have to google up some additional info and see what emerges.

I'm not part of the notables project either but have a couple that I work on when I need a break from my own family:

Eudora Welty, Pulitzer prize winner - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Welty-585

  • She came up in a North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources blog post and I was intrigued. She wasn't on WikiTree, so I've added a profile for her and her parents.

Ronald E Glass, actor best known for his roles in Barney Miller and Firefly - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glass-2249

  • When Ron died, profiles were created for him and his parents. Then his father got linked to a couple who has since been disproven. I think we finally got that sorted out and I've added some research notes on his grandmother's profile.
by Debi Hoag G2G6 Pilot (395k points)
Hi Debi! I remember Ron! I started off trying to put his initial profiles together, found 3 different people with similar names, similar backgrounds, and you helped get that mess straightened out! Thank you!

I used to watch Barney Miller growing up and just wanted to at least try to provide him and his family tree an opportunity to become a part of our larger global tree. I'm glad to see he's in good hands.
Eudora Welty will show connected tomorrow.

I've been working on Colorado Notables.  For example, Benjamin Barr Lindsey-- Lindsey-3451 created the first juvenile court in the country in Colorado--before Lindsey, juveniles were *always* tried as adults. Silas Soule-- Soule-1347 was a hero who stood up against Colonel Chivington both at the Sand Creek Massacre and afterwards.  In return for his efforts to reveal the atrocities at Sand Creek, he was murdered.  I also worked on Glenn Miller's wife, Helen-- Burger-1042 whose family were pioneers in the Boulder and Jamestown, Colorado areas.  I connected her to her parents, and I hope to add a lot more about them.  She isn't notable herself, but she was previously unconnected and her family is fairly fascinating.   I also need to get back to work on Willard Libby -- Libby-1345, who was born in Colorado in my hometown county, and won the Nobel prize for creating Carbon-14 dating.   When I get those profiles in shape, I plan to add other Colorado notables.
by J. Crook G2G6 Pilot (228k points)
I see everyone else used direct links for their notables, so here are the direct links:

Willard Libby https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Libby-1345

Ben Lindsey https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lindsey-3451

Helen Burger Miller https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Burger-1042

Silas Soule https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Soule-1347
J - I will have to agree with you on this. That sometimes the Notables (while interesting in their own right) end up having much more interesting relatives whose stories have yet to be told and I have more fun finding the somewhat neglected uncle of the famous person who did something wonderful with his life or suffered through some incredible hardships that tell a story that likely impacted why the Notable turned out the way they did. Good to know that you enjoy exploring the journey along the way of adding to a Notable's family!

Willard Libby will show as connected in tomorrow's update.

I am continuing my research on the extended families of two of my notable relatives, Jimmy Stewart and Taylor Swift. I truly enjoy working with Wikitree and devote a substantial amount of my free time contributing to it. It makes my retirement seem more fulfilling.  Thank you.
by Ray Domanski G2G3 (4.0k points)
Welcome to the discussion! I had the opportunity to visit Jimmy Stewart's home town while my son was in college in Blairsville, PA. They do a very cool documentary at the public library/Jimmy Stewart Museum that was fascinating. I admire his courage and humble nature that was (and still is) quite unusual for Hollywood, and believe that he was a very good man at heart. Good luck on your research!

Once in awhile, I'll come across a recent Notables passing that someone might have an interest in creating their profile. I do recall this man, but he wasn't a huge player in a large number of movies, but was in a decent number, was on the stage, has an OBE from the Queen, and possibly related to someone out there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Pigott-Smith

Tim Pigott-Smith, born 13 May 1946 - died 7 April 2017. He was only 70 years old. Actor in film and television roles. Author. He was in Doctor Who (always a plus in my book) and won a BAFTA for Best Actor in 1985 (well, not for his Doctor Who appearance, but still). One of his bigger roles was in 1985 in the television show "The Jewel in the Crown" (this is what he won his award for!).

Anyway - just throwing this out to see if anyone has an interest in creating his profile and connecting him to the global tree.

Thanks!
by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Holy cow, I cant beleive I missed that!!  He's dead? Oh dear. RIP Tim.

If you ever saw a British miniseries on TV called "Jewel in the Crown" about the Brits in India during the early  to mid 1900s. It centres around one English girl and her Indian boyfriend which was a huge no-no. I think this was Art Malik's first major TV series. He too was excellent as well. Anyway, Tim Piggott-Smith was very good in this series. He played a bad guy and was very good at it. I think the series was made in the 1980s and was based on a series of books. Cant remember the author but the first name MAY have been Paul. Does anyone know if Charles Dance is still living or not? He was also in this series as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Dance

Still alive - born 1946, so he's about.. 70-ish

A lot of my notables are military personnel including females who joined the Women's Army Corps during WW 2; and a couple of men who were a POW/MIA, and a Medal of Honor recipient among others.

I ran into a road block trying to connect the following to the "global" Tree recently however:

*https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Galloway-1713 COL Irene Ottilia Galloway

*https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gorman-1276 Col Emily Carla Gorman

*https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kerins-30 Judge Florence Murray (Kerins)

*https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Capodanno-2 Fr Vincent Robert Capodanno

*https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barry-1904 SGM Augustus Barry

and a few others pointed out by the recent Database errors reports. Any help would be appreciated!!

by Dorothy Barry G2G Astronaut (2.7m points)
I think I remember a few of these names from a previous thread! Good to know you're still working on these. If I can get a spare moment, I might take another run at one or two of these.
I added a little family to Galloway when I had a spare moment. No connection yet.
Thanks Scott, I appreciate the additions you just made!! Sooner or later she will be connected thanks to your efforts!!
Emily Gorman now shows as connected.

Thank you Greg Slade for letting me know!!  Appreciate that! yes

I've been working on colonial-era cemeteries in Connecticut. Some of those people are Notable, but those are only incidental, if they pop up along the way. I've been working a couple weeks on one challenging individual. Today I decided to take a break.

A story about the woman in Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother" photograph, Florence Thompson, showed up in my FaceBook feed. It was 100% plagiarized from Wikipedia, turns out (no credit given.) Anyhow, it had a bunch of family info, and I thought it would be cool to build the family tree for such an iconic woman and connect her to the tree.

Turns out Florence Leona (Christie) Owens aka Hill, Thompson has a profile already, but no hint that's who she is. I just started on it today. I'm about ready for a break from Colonial New England anyhow!!

Hi Elizabeth! I know what you mean about taking a break now and then so that you can stay fresh on things. Although you might find Notables in the most unusual and unexpected places, so it never surprises me when I'm working on a cemetery, listening to the radio, or reading a piece of mail that a cool idea comes up and it turns out that there is a Notable in there somewhere.

Although I am a member of Notables Project, I have not found the time to work on 7 or 6 more that I want to enter... My normal Tree keeps exploding ! :))

These guys are up for grabs; any help would be appreciated, TY JPV IV :)

Any Movie Buffs or old western Buffs would enjoy these brothers:

6th cousin 2xr Actors: James King Aurness aka James Arness from "Gunsmoke" & Peter Duesler Aurness aka Peter Graves from "Mission : Impossible".

Hm - I didn't know those two were brothers! I see they both have trees started and are connected to the global tree (GREAT!) but appear to still need more family added and could use some more information in their bio's. Hopefully someone can assist, although I'll add these to my list as well to take a look at one day when I can find a bit of time.
I am loading Photograph Images of them now (or course with citations).

Still learning to be a good Notables Project member.

Their Profile Privacy is Open, Please feel free to add to their biographies.

I am not a good writer. I do facts, keying and Source finding well.

JPV IV :)
I've added some family to James Aurness and tried to do some improvements in general to his tree. I hope it has been helpful.

Just to get it started I add the profile for John Warren Geils, J. Geils, because he died yesterday. I hope to work on it soon but it is Open so anyone can jump in, I am still a little slow.
by Dale Byers G2G Astronaut (1.7m points)
I do know that since he is Jr. his father should be John Warren Geils and they lived in New York at the time of his birth so that is where I will start.
Oh - I saw this in the news yesterday and what was amazing was that I heard his Centerfold song the other day while riding down the street and had to hunt down where it was coming from - it was a really nice Harley with the speakers blasting and everyone in a 5 car radius got to hear his music. I'll have to look once you get something on him as I'm curious. Thanks, Dale!
I added his father and grandfather then I got sidetracked by life. The biggest problem is I can not find a death date for his father and since senior was born less than 100 years ago it is still set to the most open setting I can but still Private with public biography and family tree.
I added a few tidbits of information to John Warren Geils Jr.'s profile and added at least one of his female ancestors but I have not done anything major like connecting him yet. If anyone wants to jump in and add more feel free. I have over 4500 profiles that I manage that need work besides his.
I found an article that mentions his father -

http://autoweek.com/article/car-life/rocker-jay-geils-passions-cars-music-handed-down-his-dad-ferrari-maserati-among-his

Interesting - his Dad was an engineer for Bell Labs and was able to repair anything in the household. His Dad's nickname was "Jay" and he passed that nickname down to his son. It also sounds like he enjoyed watching the auto races and took his son to see them. His son developed a love of Ferraris and Maseratis from watching the races.

Geils is now connected.

OK - to bump this back up - I'm throwing a new answer out there...

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cooper-10298 <-- Gary Cooper - I've got much of his and his wife's family started, but no connection yet.

So a bit of progress - I was able to get Gary Cooper connected to the tree! Still working on the others, but at least some forward progress.

I was very busy for a bit with my next Academy Award Winner - Greer Garson. I was able to get her tree entered, but could not get her connected with just this alone. It took some branching out to a Millichamp marriage that just happened to connect to an existing set of Millichamp profiles, and BINGO - we have a connection. :)

I also worked on Erin Moran's profile after her passing. So sad to hear of her illness from cancer. Jill Lee and I wrote a nice biography for her that I would hope others might add to. I had a bit of help, too - I got very stuck on pinpointing family, but Dale Byers and Mary Cole (especially Mary) really helped out. I think our site is the only one so far that has her tree. Plus I found several good connections for her, so she's well connected at this point.

I was planning on posting a "Notables Who Need WikiTree Profiles" message, to clear out a bunch of items which have been accumulating in my RSS reader1, but this seems like a more appropriate place to put them.

A few things have emerged from the clouds of dust raised by the Clean-a-thon:

A fine set of Latin American notables, including General José de San Martin, leader of South America's struggle for independence, was found in a set of unsourced/almost empty profiles. I have added sources for a few profiles with life events in France (I still have a couple to add, in particular José's death record) and links to Wikipedia where available. I can't speak Spanish, so can't help much more. Patrick Barnum, Latin American Roots project leader, knows about this. I adopted a few profiles but I hope they'll find more knowledgeable managers soon. This great find courtesy of Paula Dea, and the Dust Bunnies.

On the other hand, a huge fraud (involving hundreds of profiles) has been exposed. As a consequence of this I've disconnected Joseph Guillotin from a fictive "wife". The fraud presented him as a bigamist, also asserting that it was a common practice in France at the time. So the doctor is back to Unconnected status. And a review of the profile of his children is in order. You can find many affected profiles in the "Goodman Genealogy Fabrications" category. Thank you to Valerie Willis and the Pre-1500 team for this.

He shows as connected now.

Indeed, we've got to thank Yann Le Ny for that.
