From Abruzzo: Mucci, DiGiovanni, Di Giampaolo, Orlando, Giammarico, Chiavaroli

Probably from Naples: DeGiorgio, Cignale, Cantelmo
I have been doing research on my Calabrian ancestors on my father's side and my Marchegiani ancestors on my mother's side.  I have recently added them all to wikitree so I think it's time for me to become a member of italian_roots.  I have also started a tree for the great compost Gioacchino Rossini.
Welcome!
I'd love to try! My fathers family is 100% Italian... These are my grandparents surnames Salvatore, Del Carlino (Delcarlino), Diodati (spelled a dozen ways), Guida. I have a little information about where they may have come from in Italy but not much!
Welcome Louise!
I have Italian ancestors from different parts of Italy, but the one thing they all have in common is that they're hard to track!
Most of my Italian side are from Calabria, Italy.  My grandmother is Concetta Ruccella who was born in Sant Onofrio, married my grandfather Domenico Loprieato and came to the US.  I am trying to hunt down my grandma Ruccella's parents.  She has a brother Francesco Ruccella who never left Italy.  I am also looking for Lopreiato's from Italy, I think, mostly from Calabria. Many of my ancestors have immigrated all over the world.
Hi. I'm on an ongoing family history research project. My paternal roots are, as far as I have gotten to through the line back, from the Ravenna and Ferrara provinces. I'm now hoping to find those records that could only be found at parishes, Families: Zama, Albertini, Medri,Montanari, Guerrini, Venturini, Veronesi, Lazzarini,  I am living in Mexico and can't afford now to make a trip there.
Ciao, Mario, this is an old thread - the current thread for Project Italy is here: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1447403/would-you-like-to-join-the-italy-project-july-2022?show=1447403#q1447403
Thank you Cristina. Something made your message invisible until today,

Researching CENTANNI, TRIPPI, GUCCIONE, MANCUSO, TALAMO, MICELI, CIMO, PRIVITERA, DISPENZA, TRAINA, FALCONE, SOLITO, DICARLO DISTEFANO, PACI, TERRITO, PANEPINTO, and many more related families.

I research my husband's family lines from Popoli, Abruzzi and Licata, Sicily. All of their immigration took place very close to 1900, and they settled in the Cleveland, Ohio and Schenectady, New York areas. The main surnames are Diamante, Bennice (Bennici), Riggi, and Balestreri, and Capritta.

Ciao, Ronni! I have been working on my paternal grandfather's family also, who came from Modugno, not too far from Giovinazzo and Bari. My grandfather was actually born in Giovinazzo. I have been working a lot lately with the online Bari Stato Civile archives. What an incredible trove of information!

Hello, I'm fairly new to the Wikitree concept so I hope that I'm doing this correctly! My name is Karen and my husband is the American-born child of Piedmontese immigrants. I've been slowly but surely researching his genealogy for about 15 years, and I've been indexing Italian- and Spanish-language vital records for Family Search.org for the past 5 years or so. Surnames include Macagno/Maccagno, Buscaglia, Cagna, Molina, Gastaldi, Bulla, Peretto and more. Looking forward to taking part in this forum - grazie mille, e' un piacere di conoscervi! (thanks so much, it's a pleasure to meet you!)

My father's mother is Italian. Her family comes from Lucca. Last names include Federighi, Maraccini, Oracia (di Orazzi, Orazzi). I am having trouble getting anything on her ancestors once in Italy. Both her parents immigrated to the U.S.
by Jacob Girard G2G1 (1.2k points)

Happily you know they are from Lucca.  I see that Giorgio Federighi is identified in 1920 arrival documents with birth in S. Maria del Giudice, Lucca - which you have already in his profile.

Glad to have you in the project and hope you are able to make headway on these lines!

As his son Amadeo was born in Brazil, it probably makes sense to see what Federigh's and the other surnames can be found in or near Lucca.

I find some findagrave records for Federighi surname, including an Antonio  F (1867-1919) - possibly a brother or cousin to Giorgio, given the time frame.  I mention him as the cemetery is listed as Santa Maria del Giudice Cemetery

"Find A Grave Index," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVKJ-13WK : 13 December 2015), Antonio Federighi, 1919; Burial, Lucca, Provincia di Lucca, Toscana, Italy, Santa Maria del Giudice Cemetery; citing record ID 51864617, Find a Grave, http://www.findagrave.com.

Of course I view that as a secondary level source...

There's also an Emilio F.   1870-1939.

And a Rosa Michelotti Federighi 1879-1959.

This would take some page by page work -- and you may want to back out of this one step to go to Lucca too -- but this site has images of civil documents:   http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Lucca/Stato+civile+napoleonico/Santa+Maria+del+Giudice/

I've linked it to the place name mentioned. Santa Maria del Giudice

Unfortunately that link only has a limited number of years of relevance...   maybe Lucca has more.

This period may have some more items of relevance - it covers a wider range - until 1861:

Dear fellows, piacere! :)

My name is Alexey Dodsworth Magnavita de Carvalho, and I am a Brazilian-Italian citizen, currently living in Venice.

My great-grandfather, Pasquale Magnavita, was born in Paola, Calabria, and came to Brazil (Bahia) in 1898. He wrote a very detailed diary for several decades. His diary starts in 1898 and ends in 1972, and offers precious information about the migration process. I have created some profiles in WikiTree, by taking into consideration the documents and pictures I possess.

I also descend from a couple that came from Piemonte in 1760, and lived in Ceará, Brazil. Their lineage is really huge, they were a kind of "Adam and Eve" in Sobral (Ceará, Brazil), and the number of their descendants ir around 3 thousand people nowadays. Their names were Gabriele Aldighieri and Maddalena Boccardo. I have no idea why they migrated from Europe in that age, but there are some theories they were politically persecuted. I strongly suspect they were born in Borgaro Torinese, since they were baptized in a church dedicated to Cosmo and Damiano.

I am able to communicate in English, Italian and Portuguese. Feel free to keep in touch, and if you are MAGNAVITA, TOSTO, CONDINO, STELLA, DOMASCO, ALDIGHIERI or BOCCARDO, please let me know.

Best regards, vi ringrazio in anticipo.

I would like to join. I have had considerable difficulty in researching this branch of my family. My maternal grandfather, at birth, was Antonio Daniel Ronchetti, then was adopted by his Irish step-father and his name became Joseph Halpin. My grandfather was unaware of his real name until, as an adult he got a copy of his birth certificate. He biological father died when he was 3. I know his parents immigrated from Como/ La Cana/ Torino area in the Piedmont region of Italy sometime in the later 1800's. I have been unable to get back further than his parents, Pietro and Julia Ronchetti, and am unaware of my g-grandmother's maiden name.

Hi I'm Emily and I'm new enough to WikiTree to still be adding my GEDCM info.  I am researching three branches of my family in Sicily:

Lorello family from Mistretta

Vetro from Agrigento (family lore indicates the Vetro name may have been taken as an alternate name to provide distance from some family disgrace.  One version I've heard suggested my great grandfather was born around 1873 to a teenager in prison- any ideas how to research that?!??  I've heard the name may have been Bosco)

Magazzi from Cattolica

I look forward to learning from each other on this great adventure!

Glad to be here! I just joined WikiTree, and I've created a surname project for the Piscioneri name. I hope others will join in.

My immediate family is from Caulonia. They originally settled in Minnesota, then eventually moved to California in the 1930s. Surnames: Taranto, Vallelonga, Greco, Piscioneri, Geracitano.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone :)

I received a gift the day or so before Thanksgiving.    I had been in touch with someone on one of the Italian lists and he gifted me with my g-gf's marriage notice and marriage record and he translated the important parts for me.  My grandmother was from Alberobello and her father who was single was too but her mother according to the marriage record was a widow from Martina Franca.  The Italian marriage records can be a treasure trove of information.

I'm adding surnames:   Nardelli, Bernardi, Liuzzi, and Bruno
