Hi all!

I would like very much to join the Italian Roots Project! My family originates from Giovinazzo, Bari, but my direct branch of the family is from Rende, Cosenza. I have put in about 6 years of research (on and off) and have managed to make quite a dent in our family tree. I am actively helping 3 other COsenza desendents search for records and load up on their trees. I am glad to help ANYONE who is searching for their roots in Cosenza!

I would love to hear from others who have been able to break thru their Italian "brickwalls" in their trees and would also like to know how far back you have been able to go- It seems once you get into the late 1600s early 1700s you get shut down...Anyone have any luck? Will you share any great sources for Cosenza info ??? (Obviously not the well known sources so looking for some secrets!)

I am looking forward to learning, sharing and helping other members in this project! I am researching the maternal side of my family, which is Italian. My maternal grandfather was Nicola (AKA Nicholas) Rossi. He was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy in 1896 and immigrated to the US in 1912. My maternal grandmother was Elvira Bevilacqua. She was born in Italy in 1893 and immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1912. The Passenger List notes her mother as Sofia DiCecco.

To name the more recent surnames & towns - LONGOBARDI & LANZIERO from Scafati; STRIANO & BUONAFINE from San Marzano sul Sarno; DIFILIPPO & BOVE from San Salvatore Telesino; LUBRANO LAVADERA from Procida ; DILUSTRO from Forio; plus many more surnames and towns

I Have a stupid question. My Italian immigrants came from Cefalu, Sicily to New Orleans, so should I search for a Sicilian Roots project, or join this one? My immigrant Salvatore Prestisimone got naturalized as Salvador Presti Simone, so Simone became the name in Louisiana (they took Presti to be a middle name).

After family DNA tests, mysterious results and ensuing discussions, I learned my father is part Italian. I only know his last name: Martini. I'd be grateful to discover my Italian ancestry and history.

I would like to join the ITALIAN_ROOTS project. My great grandpa is (Gaetano) Thomas (Tom) Lewis born June 20, 1905 from Cobalt, Middlesex, Connecticut, USA. His father is Giuseppe “Joseph” born December 17, 1872 from Nicolosi, Catania, Sicilia, Italy. I have been working on my Distefano surname and have info that I can contribut to the surname from these regions.

Ciao, famiglia! I'd love to exchange what help I have to offer for any information I can find about my Italian roots. I am working on my ancestors, the Arduino family from Genoa and thereabouts, and the Anastasio family from Messina. I've been to Naples and Sardinia in my travels, and found the Italians to be just as warm and welcoming as anyone I've ever met. It amazes me to see how many Italian names hold prominent places in the arts, architecture, engineering, mathematics, and all fields of science, including some who share my ancestry.

I want to join. I am researching the ancestors of Michael Grasso, Sr. and Josephine Barrone who lived in New Jersey. Josephine Barrone, from the areas around Naples, Italy, immigrated to the US to marry Michael Grasso, Sr. Mike's father Francisco Grasso, who also immigrated from Italy, also lived in New Jersey. I have reached a road block in researching Francisco and his family.

I'm very new to WikiTree, so I'm not sure how helpful I'll be on the project, but I am actively researching my ancestors who came from the Torino, Piedmont, Italy region.

I would love to join this project! My Dad’s mother’s family was from Italy. The surname is Businelle, of course this is the spelling used once they were in America. I’ve been having a diffucult time finding information on them though. Hopefully becoming a part of this project can open up some new doors for my research!

My Italian roots, as far back as I have, is my 11th great grandfather, Bartholomew Taliaferro born in Veneto Italy and died in London England on September 22 1601.

I am Italian on my mother’s side. My family is from Calabria, more specifically Fagnano Castello, Cosenza, Calabria. The family names are: Avolio, Cianni, Porcella, and Tarsitano. I have quite a bit of information on the Cianni’s and Tarsitano’s, but hitting dead ends with the Avolio’s and Porcella’s. I haven’t had time to upload my info on these families yet. I'd like to join the project. I'm mainly searching the province of Cosenza where most of the Sdao originated. My paternal grandfather was from the town of Mangone. One of my personal projects is to catalog the Sdao name and track our migration especially to North America.

I also have ancestors from Naples including my paternal grandmother who was a Vitale but I haven't researched as extensively there.

Names: Caruso, D'Alessandro, Amoroso, Giancola / Giangola, Giustiniani, D'Amico, Trivisonno / Trivisonne, Federico and related with many others.

Some of my D'Alessandro migrated to Canada, most others still live in Italy.

Hi! My father's paternal family is from Naples, and lived in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn NY. Last name is Ajello, but I've also seen the spelling "Aiello". I'd love to be included in this project!
