What are the vital statistics for Gertrude Chester, the mother of record for Grace Ramsey nee Norton?

Grace Norton has a social security application in which she lists her mother as Gertrude Chester and her father as Howard Norton. I was able to locate Grace Norton in the US 1930 and 1940 Census in the New Jersey area.

However, so far, I have only the name of her mother of record. I have been unable to find any corroborating documents for a Howard Norton and Gertrude Chester, and I have been unable to find a record of birth for Grace Norton.

There is a Howard and Gertrude Norton living in the New Jersey area in the years prior to Grace's birth, but Gertrude Norton nee Vellett or Valetta seems to have died in 1906 which would be about 12 years before Grace Norton would seem to have been born.

Grace would seem to have been born during the US involvement in World War I, and I think it likely that Howard was drafted. Normally, I would think that Gertrude is going to be local to the area, but if Howard was drafted then it is likely he was at some military base either in the US or abroad when Grace was conceived or born.

Anyone got anything on this?

I'm afraid I couldn't find anything to help you in your search for Gertrude Chester, but I did come across the US Social Security Applications and Claims Index, which indicates that Grace was born in Sharptown, NJ, 4 Jan 1918, daughter of Howard Norton and Gertrude Chester. Would confirm Grace's Sharptown birth, as per her obituary.
