John Churchill (Goderich Township, Huron County, Ontario) would be my Great Great Grandfather, his son James married EmmaRosina Blake in Greeene Co, Wisconsin is my Great Grandfather, His son Lester (Nebraska) married Olive (Olove) May Bowers (Kansas) is my Grandfather.  I'm looking for more information on who John's father is and Martha's maiden name and where they were/when they were born, whne they got married and died (where also).

John would have to have to be born around 1820 or earlier since James his son was born 1848

Connie, I went to "Churchill Family Genealogy Forum" and found references to John and Martha, lester and James.  There is evidently another member of your family with the same concerns.  There was reference to John's father.  If you haven't been there you might try it, it is free.

Alan, Where or how do I find the Churchill Family Genealogy Forun?

Connie is my sister but lost some info when her pc went down. Please contact

me at grouchy58@yahoo.com

Thanks

umm... Had a look at the Linked location for Goderich Township, Huron County, Ontario and it is on the opposite side of the ocean from where it should be. Nevertheless...

Starting out I assume this record is the one you are starting from: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XRLY-K4W

The Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid only has 4 Churchills buried in Goderich Township, but it was very common for people to be buried in adjacent townships or counties. http://ocfa.islandnet.com/ocfa-search.php - Most of the Churchills in Huron County appear to be buried in Hullett twp, and most seem to be of Irish descent.

Given James was married in 1868 he was likely born before 1850.

The 1851 Canada Census for Goderich Twp and Goderich Town are both lost.

The 1861 Canada Census for Goderich has a James Churchill b. abt 1848 who is resident in the home of William Churchill (b. Ireland) and his wife Ann (b. England) http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1861/jpg/4391554_00393.jpg

There is also however a James Churchell b. 1848 in Canada West and a Martha J Churchell b. 1847 also in Canada who reside in Rock, Wisconsin during the 1860 US Census. The other Churchells and Churchills in this area not born in Wisconsin or Canada all come from Ireland. If they are all part of one migrating family group we can say they emigrated from Ireland to Canada between 1837 and 1847 (Likely Famine Emigrants) and then from Canada to Wisconsin between between 1850 and 1851.

So you can look at the household from the last paragraph of my previous post it is in Porter, Rock, Wisconsin on Page 78 of the 1860 Census. The James I refer to in the last paragraph of the previous post is line 28. The scan is very difficult to read, but at least it's free :)

In 1870 James is in Monroe Town, Green Co, WI with his wife Rosena and son Adson born in Sept 1869. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11630-167722-17?cc=1438024&wc=M9SM-4T8:n370001164

The family he is living with in 1860 seems to correspond to the one discussed in this thread: http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=2549&p=localities.britisles.ireland.tip.general

If I had to put the information together into a best guess I would say > James/Joseph and Frances are Grandparents and he is living with his uncle James and family.

You may want to look at family 209 of the US Census 1850 residing in Janesville, Rock, Wisconsin https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12118-18659-27?cc=1401638&wc=MMYD-Y9V:976406342 which has the Churchill household with a James born about 1848 with a mother Martha. Their surname is however not given as Churchill. Might be a useful lead to chase.
