Based on the information at Find a grave website, I do not believe these are the same people.   This person was born in Virginia and the one you are looking for was born and lived their life in West Virginia.

West Virginia was Virginia until 1863.  That's why this is so confusing.
I too am just working on the McWhorter family, I have a Mary McWhorter who married a Cornett, was widowed and married either a John or Jesse Evans.  But, the families connected in this lineage use the name Champness for first names of boys.  So I quickly searched to see if the name has been used for a last name, and it has... so that my be a clue.  So you might want to include Champman in there.  Let me know if you have anything solid to add to my Mary McWhorter.
