The Genographic Project of National Geographic is not primarily a genealogic DNA tester. They do provide yDNA and mtDNA raw data but for auDNA raw data additional costs come into play because you need to go through FTDNA.

Unfortunately the current version is not useful for genealogy (primarily because it is not compatable with tests from other labs in GEDmatch).  Their testing is no longer being done by Family Tree DNA (so you can no longer transfer to Family Tree DNA.)

I just went back to Q&A feedback I found this

When you submit your samples for the Geno 2.0 Next Generation test or when you submit samples from an older Geographic Project test kit and accept the terms and conditions to be run on the newer technology for the Next Generation testing, the only way you can receive your raw data from your testing is to transfer over to Family Tree DNA. Male test takers will be able to receive both their Y-DNA and mtDNA raw data for free, and females will be able to receive only their mtDNA raw data for free. When it comes to autosomal raw data, then the additional $39 is needed to receive that information.
Please note that most other companies are not able to use the raw data information for ancestry sites like you mentioned because the older versions of the Genographic Project test looked at a smaller set of autosomal results, which would not be compatible with uploading to another site. When you transfer your data to Family Tree DNA and pay the additional $39, you can use Family Tree DNA's site for your genealogical needs, and you can still get the raw data file for the autosomal results, which you can also upload to other websites.

Thanks Richard.   The Genographic site says you can't (yet) transfer Helix co-branded kits, but if you used a Participant kit then you can pay to transfer your DNA sample to Family Tree DNA additional testing.  I wonder how you tell if you have the Helix type kit or not?:

"For Geno 2.0 Next Gen Participants (but not Geno 2.0 Next Gen Helix co-branded kits) the raw analytical output from your DNA sample is available for purchase through our partner, Family Tree DNA. Go to My Profile, select the My Results tab and scroll down till you see Transfer my Results on the right hand side. Or you can click here.

For Geno 2.0 Next Gen Helix co-branded kit Participants, we are currently exploring options to be able to make this available to you."
