What is the best way to work around unresponsive members?

I am trying to add my Great-Great Grandfather. There is already a profile for him. I sent a request to be on the trusted list and have not received a response. Should I now create a duplicate and then try to merge? I am a little confused about how this should work and do not want to do it wrong. It has been almost a month since I sent the original request. Thanks to anyone willing to offer some guidance.

The profile for Franklin B. Hakes is an Open profile. If he's your great-great grandfather, you should simply connect your great-grandparent's profile to Franklin as his child. And if you have more information and sources to add to his profile, you are free to do so.

But it would be a good idea to go through the Unresponsive Profile Manager process so you can be added to the Trusted List.

PS - Hakes is an unusual name. I bet Franklin and his father are related to some of the earlier Hakes family members on the Hakes surname list. Have you researched those earlier generations?

Ah, now I see that you haven't signed the Honor Code yet. That means you are not a full WikiTree Genealogist member and you can't edit that profile. Please continue through the process to become a WikiTree Genealogist.
Thank you. I thought I had done that actually. I am still trying to figure things out and am reluctant because I don't want to make a bunch of mistakes.
In all of my research I have not been able to trace back farther than Franklin's father, Alonzo. Of course I don't spend as much time as I would like doing research.
