Hi All,

I am looking for information on a 'Nellie Cummins' or 'Cummings' born in Adelaide, SA around 1890 (she was allegadly 21 in 1911)

She gave birth to a 'Clive Cummins' on April 3rd 1911 in Paddington NSW, I have Clive Cummins' birth certificate and she gave no father's information, just; Her name as Nellie Cummins, her age as 21 and place of birth as Adelaide.

I believe she was part of a musical duo with a 'William Jacobs' sometime before and around the year 1911. She was a highly regarded pianist, apparently. William Jacobs is said to possibly be the child's biological father, as he and his wife, Florance Anne Trembath, adopted the child, now Clive JACOBS, along with several other adopted children. Though relatives swear that on William Jacobs death bed he admits Clive Jacobs (nee Cummins) is his biological AND adoptive son.

I have no more information on Nellie (maybe Ellen?) Cummins, though specualtion said she was perhaps born Nellie Cummings and changed it when she got pregant illigitmantly, she may have also lied about her age, some records saying she may have been as young as 17 or 18 at the time of Clives birth (1911)

ANY information on Nellie Cummins and her family would be greatly appriciated.

With thanks

Katrina

hi katrina,
unfortunately, I dont believe that south australia has any online searchable indexes for the period you are interested in.
There are a few online resources but they tend to be for much earlier records, but some of these resources may be worth checking out...

Do you know where Nellie died because most Australian death records include the parents names.  There is a possible death record in North Sydney in the NSW BMD (http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au)...
18843/1931 CUMMINS NELLIE JOHN MARY NORTH SYDNEY
...the certificate should include a birth date or at least an age at death.

Unfotunately, a google search only finds your question on genealogy.com
